Sandman Hotel Vancouver City Centre - Vancouver

The bathroom had a sour smell as if it had been cleaned with a mop or rag that had mildewed. There was no room service even though there are 2 restaurants in the hotel. The lighting in my room was too poor to read by, overhead lights are placed in odd places both in the room and in the bathroom. It was very noisy - could hear all conversations in the halls. The TV didn't work nor did the wireless internet. I had to call twice to get the TV fixed.

This hotel was fine. Our only complaint was the acoustics. We could hear activity in other rooms. Our friends were next to the elevator and could hear people getting on and off.

We arrived on a warm afternoon and were put in a stifling hot room on the 11th floor. Even after 3 hours of running the a/c, the room was still unbearable. When I let the management know this was not acceptable, they moved us to a cooler, but smoking room. Finally, the next day, we were moved a second time to a clean, comfortable non-smoking room. The upside was that the staff tried hard to make our stay comfortable and was very helpful with information about local restaurants, directions, etc.

An adequate hotel, does nothing badly. Well placed for exploring downtown Vancouver on foot and walkable to Granville Island. Higher floors have better views.

Tired old hotel needs work, but they keep the lobby up for good appearances.

Very clean and comfortable hotel. Was easy walking distance to the gaslight area and downtown shopping.

Location was okay, as I was seeing Coldplay at GM Place, which is just a block or so away. But it just wasn't what I was expecting for the price I paid: small room, lots of maintenance being done, almost no hot water in shower. But the front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Wouldn't stay here again simply for the price - just wasn't in my room long enough to justify it.

I wanted to stay nearer the ship dock, my wife wanted to save a 100 bucks. We did what my wife wanted. She was happy so I was happy.

I only stayed one night, so my experience with the hotel is limited. The room was fine except the bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen. You could barely close the bathroom door when you were in there. The 35 inch LCD TV was on the desk, so it was a little weird using the desk with the TV turned on, since it was a foot away from your face. The restaurant was great. Overall a decent place to stay, considering the price

Great location, very clean and modern...

Room was small but clean, hotel sports bar was very nice, elevators seemed old. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

First. It was walking distance to GM PLACE which was the purpose of my trip. Near shopping and restaurents. Great price.

Bathroom very small

The Sandman hotel is exactly like the comic character: a villian. The hotel is located in a decent area, but about 10 blocks away from the intersection of Robson and Granville creating an inconvient walk for those who are looking to shop or party. Next, the hotel is currently in the middle of a remodel but it clearly isn't shown in the quality of the rooms. Yes there was a cool LCD TV but all the cables were hanging out and the finish of all the wall paper, I could have done better myself. Lastly, I was attempting to use an iron when I found there was some sort of plastic that had been melted onto the bottom of it. I asked customer service for a new one at aprox 3pm. Didn't get one. Then again at 7pm. Didn't get one. Then finally at 9:30pm that same day I got one. Clearly it was a lack of customer service. The Sandman is a villian you can't help but root for. The price is there (cheap) and the location "looks" good, but spend your cheap dollars elseware as you will be let down. Had I known that this is what I would recieve for my money spent, I would have spent $50 more and booked a more central located hotel with better accomadations.

first time in Vancouver - we will go back to city, but not necessarily staying at this hotel - a/c was added to room post facto - window unit not sealed properly and ran constantly - hotel personnel was very helpful, could even speak to city bus schedules and routes

Our stay at this Hotel was our worst Hotel experience we ever had. The room was extremely small and the bath room was so small you could not close the door while you were inside of it. The A/C unit was all the way under a table and every time you wanted to turn it on/off or adjust the temperature you had to crawl under the table to do it. The worst part was the elevators. To get to our room we had to insert our room card key into a reader inside the elevator to get it to work and 90% of the times the reader did not work and we had to go to the fron desk to get someone to come and get the elevator going. If we had not pre-paid for this room we would have walked out after the first night.

Our one queen room was small, but was furnished very upscale. Indoor pool and fitness center was more than adequate. We could not find a breakfast restaurant nearby and ended up eating in the hotel restaurant, which was very nice.

Don't book the wrong one! This one is on Georgia Street while the other is on Davie Street. The one on Davie is nicer than this one, and is closer to more fun stuff. This hotel is very average in all areas. There isn't anything bad with the experience, but I probably wouldn't stay here again next time.

We booked this hotel because of its location. We were going on a cruise and we need a room to stay before our sail date. The hotel was approximately six miles from the Ballyntyne Port but because of traffic it took us twenty five minutes to get to Port. The hotel itself is well situated being surrounded by different restaurants and shopping places. The room we got did not have a view. It was kept clean everyday except that everytime we took a shower, water leaks from the tub. The place is recommended for a one to two night stay. However, per night rates are high.

Loved it. Well located, wonderful people, great restaurant. Just a great experience and would go again in a heartbeat.

The hotel was pretty good. There were a few little quirks with the hotel, but when we told the staff about it, they took care of it quickly. For the money and being close to town, I was pleased with my stay.

Only thing that I did not like was no internet in rooms. Had to go to Lobby to download emails and since this was a work trip meant many visits down to Lobby. Not want I want to be doing but other than than Hotel excellent.

Small Room close to a bad part of town. The hotel workers are nice and helpful. The room was clean, and it was close to several scenic areas. Still, it was a bit over price. I still wood recommend it.

The descriptions and pictures of this hotel are extremely misleading. Whereas the lobby is beautiful, the rooms are horrendous. Not only are they worn and ill-maintained, but the two rooms we were in (we had to change because the first one was so bad) smelled! Gross! The biggest problem in the second room was that the fire detector was hanging by a string from the ceiling. Yet, the green light was still on. Regardless, please don't sacrifice your vacation to this hotel. Find somewhere -- anywhere -- else.

Clean hotel at a good price. However, there are minor things that prevent it from being a really good hotel. First, the elevators were unreliable, resulting in people waiting 20+ minutes for an elevator, which is a big inconvenience on the 10th floor. Second, the rooms are very small. Very. Small. However, the prices are good, the rooms are clean and safe, and the restaurants are outstanding (although a bit pricey). The location is also very convenient.

As first-timers to the city, I researched our options and with the help of hotels.com booked a hotel that definitely met our needs. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. We could have easily taken a taxi to Stanley park for under $10(w/tip) but was able to take a beautiful walk through the town/waterfront areas. Maps/activity brochures readily available. Tours desk right in lobby. Taxis stopped at this hotel regularly.

Several issues with my stay at this hotel that detracted from my stay in Vancouver. *Lights didn't work. *towel racks falling off walls. *wifi ONLY in lobby (hello, its 2008!. Need to go to front desk to get an adapter. *Beds were uncomfortable. *Air conditioning didn't work. Waited nearly 4 hours after calling front desk and nobody showed up. Finally went to front desk to complain. Shot the evening. *Un-organized staff. *Rude doorman at Bar. All in all, the outstanding location did not make up for all the things that went wrong. I will not return.

THE ROOMS WERE ON THE SMALL SIDE IF MORE THAN 2 ADULTS IN THE PARTY BUT WAS ADEQUATE FOR A FEW NIGHTS STAY. THE RESTAURANT LOCATED ON SITE HAD A WIDE VARIETY OF CHOICES AND THE FOOD WAS GOOD. CONVENIENT TO MANY DOWNTOWN PLACES OF INTEREST. A BIT NOISY IN THE HALLWAYS AFTER THE ON SITE PUB CLOSED. HOTEL STAFF FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.

They couldn't find out reservation when we arrived. It was kindof inconvenient. Once we got checked it everything was fine.

Overall the hotel is okay. The non-smoking rooms, does not mean they don't allow people to smoke on the same floor, which gets drafted into the room thru the vents and under the door. This made for a very uncomfortable stay. For the price the rooms were sufficient, very small, but it served it's purpose as a base for daily excursions.

Outstanding service; Hotel needs strong cleaning!

Very disappointed that we did not receive the room we had booked one line. Even after having a confirmation, we let them now the room was wrong and they said they had corrected it. We we arrived we did not get the correct room. So that disappointed us. But the Hotel is in a very central area, was great for us we were down at BC Place and it took us 10 minutes to walk it. Then rooms need a fresh new look, smells like a older hotel..

The bathroom in my rooms was very small. I could barely close the door while I was in there. Otherwise, I had no complaints.
