The Westin Nova Scotian - Halifax

My first night I arrived around midnight after a day transatlantic flying. (I had called ahead about this.) I was put in a shabby room next to the elevator shaft. They let the elevator keep running until 1am. Despite my earplugs it felt like I was trying to sleep in a heavy storm. Next morning it started up at 6am. I was moved next day (to a better room). But the general manager never responded to my request to speak with him/her. On last night, I was held up by (apparently) teenagers that were jumping on their bed and running around. It took the security officers about an hour to locate them. (This time the front-desk folk were apologetic next morning.) I agree that this last incident is bad luck. At the hotel bar the bartender was very highstrung.

The only experience that marred our stay was an encounter with one particularly rude and unhelpful manager on duty on the last night of my stay. I called to ask what might be the best way to get to the airport the following morning. His curt response was, come to the front desk and we'll give you directions. I explained that I meant should I take a cab, or was there a shuttle, etc. "Sure, whatever." Well, is there a shuttle schedule you can tell me about? My flight leaves tomorrow at noon. "Yeah, I think there's a shuttle that leaves around 10." Not only was he terse, for no apparent reason, but when we checked out the following morning, we discovered that the shuttles left at 9 and 11; there was no scheduled shuttle that would get us to the airport in time. Thankfully, the lady working the front desk very kindly arranged for us to be taken to the airport, and apologized for the manager I had spoken with the previous evening.

Excellent location to wonderful bars and restaurants and great service. Quick checkin and very friendly staff. Free shuttle to local points of interest. Remodeled room was very nice.

I give this hotel a 3 star overall rating due to the hidden costs of having to pay additional rates for internet,parking and especially the $4.95 for the bottled water that is sitting in the room.

Harbour view is outstanding. Staff were very friendly and considerate. There was a problem the first night with condensation leakage from the a/c unit and the rug in the room got very wet. This was very inconvenient as we had to move to another room.

We stayed seven nights and enjoyed every one of them. The hotel is one of the older properties, but it has been nicely re-modeled. We shelled out extra for the "harbor-view" room, which was definitely worth it (although I doubt there is a bad view from any of the rooms). It is a little farther down the boardwalk from the other hotels in town, but the walk isn't bad at all. This is especially true as the "improved" portions of the harbor-front move closer to the passenger cruise ship terminals, which is right across from the Westin.

Location was great for walking to the downtown area. Rent a car desk inside lobby makes it easy to get car when needed. Transportation to airport was available if booked at front desk ahead of schedule. helpful and friendly staff.

We weren't given the rooms reserved; the bathroom fixtures were not working right; and surprised to have to pay for internet service. Otherwise, the staff very friendly and accommodating-- tried their best--a great location; beds very comfortablce; and very quiet.

The beds are just fabulous and our room was large without being cavernous. The fitness center is well-equipped and the indoor pool is pleasant.

The bath room had no counter space , the water in the sink ran very slow cleaning ladies should report that .the rug needed cleaning badly, as far as the servest was good lobby was clean . resturant was great .

i was surprised because we had enjoyed every other aspect that the hotel had to offer, but the restaurant service was bad. As soon as we got there the hostess barked out " got reservations??!!" we said no but when i looked around there wasn't that many people there. So she leads us over to a tiny table behind a corner...we were there for two hours literally waiting the whole time for everything!! Our waiter barely came around to see if we needed anything, including beverages, and i was just appalled the food was fantastic but it was definitely not worth the long wait. I felt completely singled out because we were not getting the service we deserved or payed for! As we were leaving i told the waiter that i was not pleased with the service or the lack there of, and he just mumbled an apology. Definitely would not go there again.
