Huntingdon Hotel & Suites on the Harbour - Victoria

Room was dated, carpet old could not tell if just faded or dirty. advertised Harbour view- only if setting in one seat and looking under a tree, other rooms did not appear to have any better view.

The room was very dated and worn. Carpet was discolored from wear,age, soil. Advertised harbour veiw, which it did have if you set in one chair and looked out a specific portion of the small window under a maple tree. The location was good.

The room was quite ordinary, but the location is steps from the inner harbor and all main attractions. They offer more luxurious rooms, but we were just spending the night so didn't want the extra expense. Staff was extremely helpful.

Excellent location. I chose this hotel primarily for location. Easy walk to just about anywhere and other modes of transportation. It is an older hotel. The staff is very accomodatin and courteous. It has one computer serving as the Business Center for hotel guests. The room was nice and roomy. In room coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. That's a plus.

I chose this hotel over other chain hotels in the same price range because it looked unique and quaint and it was a short walk to everything we wanted to see on our overnight trip. When we arrived, I noted the location was even better than I'd realized from looking at the map, and the surrounding neighborhood is very lovely, lots of trees and well-groomed gardens, you almost don't notice every building is a hotel. The outside of our hotel was just as lovely as the next, but the inside looked more old and cliche than quaint or unique. The woman who checked us in seemed stressed and annoyed, even though we were the only ones in the lobby. There was no air conditioning, and the window only opened a few inches, so the room was hot and stale. We could hear a baby crying several times in the middle of the night, although I'm not sure if that was coming in through the window or through thin walls. In short, for the money, you could probably find better on the same block.

This hotel is definately past it's prime! It needs major renovations and refurbishing: the chairs were worn and uncomfortable; our mattress due for replacement; there was a broken/cracked window; no decent reading light (only 40 or 60 watt bulbs in the room); worn linens; the exterior of building needs painting as well as the interior and the carpets need replacement... The location IS great! It is within walking distance to The Empress Hotel, Parliment, carriage rides, and the Black Ball Ferry terminal.

My wife and I were thrilled. Room was large and comfortable and the location was outstanding.

Clean and well-maintained, friendly staff, British feel with hunt club theme, nice courtyard view, a few steps from ferries and walking distance to most attractions.

I like the location of this hotel to the inner harbor. Very easy to walk to all our activities. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the restaurants were terrific.

Nice small hotel at the harbour. Recommendablem but air condition is too loud to keep it turned on while sleeping.

This was a good price hotel in a good situation close to the inner harbour. Hotel itself was nothing special but fine for a short trip.

This hotel was great all around. The staff was professional, kind and helpful. The hotel provided parking that was free and could accommodate oversized vehicles (which was helpful for us) and it was within walking distance on Victoria's harbor and city center.

If you are traveling by way of the Victoria Express ferries, this hotel is ideally suited (just across the street from the landing and customs). There is also an excellent restaurant (and a couple others we did not try) adjacent to the hotel. Various sights are within easy walking distance (e.g., fisherman's wharf, legislative building, tourist information, BC Museum, Beacon Hill park, downtown). These are the pros. Unfortunately our room needs updating, it smelled like sour sponge, had very hard beds, and a noisy AC/fan. The hotel and attached B&B are unique and interesting architecturally, something we appreciate as a change from the usual predictable, boring chain hotels. However, the hotel is showing its age. It needs paint and repairs on the exterior and could be classier if the attached garden/patio and other features were upgraded a bit. Free breakfast is not included in the summer although there is a setup for it. The breakfast available is basic and somewhat expensive. I heard another visitor call the service there "disgraceful". Too bad, this could be a great place to stay, but if I were going again, I'd stay at one of the nearby chain hotels with less character.

The room was dated and lacked any frills but was convenient to the ferry and had all the basic amenities. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly.

The hotel is well located and the staff quite helpful but the lack of air conditioning makes the room very uncomfortable on a warm day.

Happy with this hotel. As you can tell with reviews, many people will complain no matter what. These people were nice/professional. Good location, everything in walking distance. Thats good news for you fat butts who need to walk more anyways. They also let me keep my parking spot in the garage for a few hours after check-out. Cool of them.

The only thing we didn't like was the bed was very hard. Other that that it was wonderful. Would stay again. The staff was very helpful.

if you are looking for a place to sleep only, it's a good room for the money. If you are looking for a hotel with great service and amenities - not your place. The hotel only has AC on the third floor, the website doesn't mention this and it was hot when we were there, the fan did not work, hotel service brought us a small 12 in fan that didn't work much better, we asked the cleaning lady to swap our replaced fan with one from another room. we booked two rooms, they placed our party on separate floors. We asked to be moved at least to the same floor. They were booked out, but many guests had not arrived yet, they refused to move us even after we offered to go with a different room type. Stay away from the business class rooms, the 2nd and third floors are in much better condition. Hotel was conveniently located and on a quiet street, restaurants were close - which is good because I can't recommend the service of the restaurant in the hotel. The food was ok but the service was horrible (the wait staff were very nice though). They ran out of coffee one morning, two mornings in a row they ran out of clean coffee cups and silverware @ 8:00 am??? Day two after this we decided to try another place for breakfast. In summary, if you get a good price for the room, I wouldn't turn it down if you are just looking for a place to keep your suitcase and crash at night. The bed was comfy - room was clean - neighborhood was nice, close to terminal and quiet.

We stayed at this hotel perhaps 20 years ago and several times since then. We will not be returning. It was satisfactiry in the begining. The location is superior, but there are four others in the neighborhood that exceed the quality and ,of course are not as old. This place has no air conditioning, the bar serves as breakfast location and you cannot buy a drink at 4PM. It's age is showing and the excellent work of the lower staff can't overcome the age. Management seems disinterested in pleasing the piblic.

My best friend and I stayed at Huntingdon and we were in Victoria to just have fun, and the hotel was perfect. We were able to go downtown and live the night life and walk back to the hotel in the much quieter part of the town. We got a good nights sleep, underground parking for only 9$ for the whole day, and got to stay on the harbour. This was a great hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

I can't say enough-to start w/ they let us check in early. The staff was just super. Had a refrig that was a very good size but best of all was the bed-OMG! The bed simply embraced us.It was too comfortable!! One afternoon I came back to the room after walking all over Victoria and laid down to read and rest and it started to drizzle outside....seemly the coziest I've ever been away from home! We will definitely stay at the Huntingdon every time we go to Victoria.

Location was great and the restaurant was quite good. Service was excellent. Location was the best, near everyhing. Although one reviewer said that she didn't get a charged for her dog, because she booked online we were charged 15 dollars canadian for our dog. But we were not charged for parking so it was a wash.Do try the spanish restaurant next to the hotel food was excelllent!!

First of all, the Hotels.com price was less than half the price that the hotel first quoted me when I called to check them out (which I always do before booking online)!! Plus, our parking was free with the online booking, and I gather you have to pay for it when booking through the hotel itself. When we got there, it was very nice and all the staff were unfailingly polite. The building is older (historic), and the lobby layout is a little inconvenient with steps up to our room on the first floor -- would not be wheelchair friendly but was fine for us. Rooms were nice, clean, pretty standard for a mid-level hotel. When my toddler wet the bed at naptime and I called for clean sheets, the staffer who came with the sheets immediately offered to switch rooms so we wouldn't have to deal with a soiled mattress, so we moved to the room next door. They were incredibly nice about it, helped us carry the bags, said "no problem" to my repeated apologies, and did not charge us a mattress-cleaning charge. The only drawback was that the in-hotel restaurant is not open for dinner, but with all the dining choices in Victoria that shouldn't be a problem. The restaurant was reasonably priced with good food and quick service for breakfast. Overall, a great experience, great location right near the Inner Harbor and easy walking to most of Victoria's attractions. They also let us leave the car in the garage all day after checkout, then return just before catching our ferry.

we were here in october, i notice there is no a/c. maybe too hot for the summer.Close to the harbor and all amenities.WE were satisfied with our stay

First of all the room was very crowded with furniture it made it difficult to just move around, No air conditionng which we knew before hand, what we didn't know is that there was a fan motor running outside our window most the night so we were unable to open the sliding glass door to the view of the harbour or to get fresh air in. I had read in other reviews that the beds were hard, I like a firm mattress so I didn't worry much about it but it was like sleeping on a plank of wood, very uncomfortable. Also they charged an additional $9.75 per day to park our car.

Great location , on harbor and near the ferries.The staff were wonderful and very helpful.The beds were a little hard but not uncomfortable. We stayed in the middle of August and the room didn't have air conditioning but it did have a fan and being on the harbor it did cool off at night, so it wasn't unbearable. We would stay again and had a wonderful time

It's a little dated but clean and the location can't be beat. They unfortunately did put us on the "1st" floor - which is up two small flights of stairs. If you have suitcases (or a stroller like us) ask for a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor so you can use their elevator (it doesn't go to the "1st" floor). Overall, for the money it's a fine value if you're just looking for a place to crash right in the heart of the inner harbour area.

The hotels location is wonderful. The rooms furnishing are older, but clean. We didn't expect a kitchenette it was a nice surprize. The secure under ground parking was a nice plus also.

It was a charming hotel, right across the street from the harbor. Convenient transportation is right outside, and its just a short walk to the Empress Hotel

A very nice hotel with a location that can't be beat! This is our second vist to the Huntingdon, and we will be back.

Although the hotel was a bit past it's prime, it had a great feel to it (open and airy, very comfortable) and the location could not be beat!

It was the best location, close to everything! The staff was excellent!!!

The only negative I feel that this location garnered was that many of the staff were new and not aware AT ALL regarding information about Victoria and the typical tourist attractions and transportation information.
