Hotel Gran Versalles - Madrid

logeerde drie en later nog eens een dag met mijn vrouw in dit hotel ivm fly drive vacantie (zelf geboekt). personeel behulpzaam en flexibel (hadden de nodige kampeer bagage). hotel ligt in zeer stil straatje vlakbij metro (2 lijnen) en bij twee voortreffelijke lokale bar/restaurantjes voor evt. een gewoon spaans ontbijt of later maal ipv het grote hotel ontbijt. personeel wist bij AVIS zeer voordelig huurauto voor 3 weken te organiseren, ver onder tarief. was orgnanizer in hotel kwijtgeraakt (ontdekt toen al twee dagen weg), was keurig bewaard. handige tips voor places to go, goed werkend gratis WIFI, kregen ivm de losse nacht voor terugreis een kamer waar we al s morgens in konden. eigenlijk alleen maar aangename verrassingen. volgende keer weer dit hotel, maar dat kan wel duren want madrid is niet zo inspirerend als salamanca of barcalona.

The Hotel is located in the center of Madrid so we could do all our visits walking. The Hotel is very close to a metro station, so very practical. The Hotel is clean, very quiet and comfortable. I would definitely go back there.

De ligging van het hotel is ideaal voor iedereen die uitstapjes wil maken in Madrid maar buiten de hectiek wil overnachten. Het hotel is sober, maar voldoet aan alles wat ik zoek bij een korte stedentrip.

The hotel is very good, perfect rooms, hard but good and wide/long beds. The location is perfect, very close to the metro with multiple lines. There is a very good bar/restaurant (Santander) around the corner that provides all day food, breakfast, lunch, tapas, drink,

The Hotel is situated across the road from a Metro station with easy access to all of the local attractions. The staff were efficient and very helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable wtih maid service everyday. All in all a great hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

I thought this hotel was fantastic. Yes there was very little natural light in the rooms but if your on holidays your going to be in the room very little. The rooms were nice, staff couldn't be more helpful and it was in a great location. Close to metro...restaurants and sights! I Would definitely stay there again. 20 mins max from the airport! defintely a great place to stay

Highly recommended this hotel for your visit to Madrid. Clean, comfortable relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff reasonably priced and located beside Alfonso Martinez metro stop.

The hotel was quite convenient, close enough to the metro so you could get everywhere quite easily. The reception staff were very nice and helpful and gave us useful directions. The room was very clean with air conditioning although we got two single beds pushed together instead of the double we had requested. We went for breakfast in the hotel on the Sunday morning which was the worst part of the hotel, the food was extremely bland/mediocre and was nowhere near being worth the money (separate charge). Other than the breakfast and the mild annoyance of the bed everything was lovely.

A very clean hotel, loved the lobby seating area. Young James behind the desk not only spoke excellent English but was particularly helpful and knowledgeable. The room was fine too and the breakfast was really good (hot and cold buffet). As good as some five star hotels I've stayed in. Only let down was a very un-inviting hotel bar which closed at 11pm.

Very clean and quiet hotel located beside the metro. Air conditioning was kinda noisy but would not keep a weary tourist awake. The minibar was not one of those electronic ones so there is room for your own water which was 0.60 euros in a little shop down the street as opposed to almost 2 euros in the minibar and indeed many parts of madrid. Most of the staff were patient and friendly. A very pleasant stay!

Good: service, clean, cool, comlimentary internet and quiet during night. Bad: The rage of cleaners letting you know that it is 9:30am will definitely wake you up.

A very good quality hotel for the price especially if you compared to a similar grade hotel in London. I would stay there again. Very well located and a couple of cheap cafes/restaurants on the doorstep.

Clean, well put together and functional though not luxurious. Does the job and is in a quiet area of town but easy walking distance to centre of town and Chueca. Word of warning though: don't count on room service or restaurant at the hotel. Food is only available at very odd hours and was never available for me when I needed it. There is also a scarcity of restaurants near by.

The hotel is located a couple of minutes from Alonso Martinez metro station which is about 20 minutes from the airport . Be sure to get the metro from the airport, it costs 2 euros rather than 25-45 euros for a taxi and it's quicker. The area around the hotel has some quiet bars and restaurants, but a 10 minute walk up the road finds some back streets with buzzing bars and restaurants. The Gran Via or Sol is a few minutes on the metro or a 20-25 minute walk. The hotel itself has a small feel to it but the room we had was fairly spacious with good fittings and was spotlessly clean. It had a trouser press, safe, and an inexpensive mini bar. The bathroom was again spotless with a good range of free toiletries including soaps, gels, razor and shaving cream, toothbrush, shoe cleaner etc. The bar is a bit minimalistic but has a nice atmosphere with locals dropping in and the tapas with the drinks are welcome. The staff are very efficient and friendly - faulty shower attend to within 5 minutes of reporting it. All in all a good value hotel in a convenient location.

I love the location, very central to the city centre, 5 minutes to the Cólon area, about 20 minutes walk to Sol. But it is right beside the Metro if you don't like to walk. The room was spotless. The double bed was actually 2 single beds together, but they were dressed as single beds, but this didn't annoy me.

the air conditioning was broken and the room was an inferno.

The hotel and room were very comfortable and clean. Now that I know my way around Madrid I would not choose this hotel for the location. Upon checking in there was a gentlman at the front desk named Jesus. He greeted us with great enthusiasm and was very helpful in suggesting places to go, etc. When Jesus was not available the rest of the front desk staff was not at all helpful and in fact when we asked one gentleman to make a dinner reservation for us, he called the place and said they didn't answer and said we probably couldn't get in anyway and didn't offer any other help or alternatives...ONLY Jesus was helpful. Would not stay there again when visiting Madrid.

I posted a review on March 14th but I have to say that I would like to say that I'm very disappointed with service. I mentioned that the front desk provided incorrect information and that it might be a language thing...I now am certain that it's an issue of the quality of their service. They tell you what you want to hear and make commitments that they have no intention of keeping. We left something in the room and called them from the airport. They said they had our item and that they would send it out but a month has gone by and we don't have our item. They are not responding to requests or telling us what the problem is. Don't stay here - go somewhere else!!

The staff were helpful, the location and room great. Its just such a shame that the builders forgot to include any soundproofing in the building. A great surprise was that the inhouse resturant was really good value (compared to average local price) with well prepared simple dishes and excellent wine.

Good location close to Metro, 800m from Plaza Colon and Paseo Recoletos area. A reasonable, 1.5Km walk to Parque Retiro, Prado and Thyssen museums. Good bars and restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast expensive,12.3 Euro, cafes close by OK.

Really enjoyed my stay. Very clean rooms, good quiet location, good service. will definitely come back!

we honestly didn't spend much time in the hotel, we were out and taking in the sights of Madrid. The people at the front desk were helpful enough, but the information they gave us wasn't usually correct - it could have been a language thing. They spoke English fine, I'm just not sure they understood what we were asking. The breakfast was like the free buffets we get in the States, didn't feel like it was worth 12 Euro. It was nice place to stay for the price. We asked for a room facing street and it was a little noisy. People in Madrid like to stay up late and party on the weekends, weekdays it wasn't too bad.

The hotel is located just off one of the main roads, but there were no sound of the traffic. Hotel was of good standard. The metro station Alfonso Martinez was less then 100 yards away, and the metro system in Madrid is one of the better in Europe. Easy to get around. The hotel is located 3 stops from Santiago Bernabeu and 1-2 stops from the Gran Via and Sol.

We were delighted with this hotel - walking distance from the main shop/art galleries and central area, yet located in a quiet and pleasant area which felt very safe at night. Hotel breakfast defeated us especially after late-night Spanish meals, but there are two nearby Starbucks for coffee and almond croissants.. Interesting shops in surrounding streets - handbag fans should head straight for Inaki Sampedro, c/ Conde de Xiquena, and there is a great cheese and foodie shop on Argensola called Poncelet. Didn't try hotel restaurant but very good and welcoming Italian restaurant, Trattoria San Paolo, c/ Francisco de Rojas, 2 mins from hotel. Another interesting shop Diedro, next door, sells a huge variety of lovely gifts and jewellery. Quiet park to relax/eat a picnic near Palacio de Justicia, down street opp Starbucks on way to Plaza Colon. Hotel staff mostly have good English and are very courteous. We would definitely recommend staying here - unless you want to be near the club scene!

The Hotel was near the Alonso Martinez "Metro" stop which allows access to the entire city and Madrid International Airport. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the Parque del Bueno Retiro, communication place, and the Prado Museum. If you like your Starbucks coffee, theirs one around the corner. Free wireless internet in the lobby. We were able to see Madrid in two in half days from this hotel.

Had a long weekend in Madrid and stayed in a double room in the hotel by myself. The hotel is located within a 10-minute walk to Chueca and Malasaña, and 20 minutes to Prado and Reina Sofia museums: you don't need to take the metro anywhere really. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was cosy, quiet and very comfortable - great huge double bed. No hassle whatsoever and highly recommended.

Hotel is well located near the metro & the surrounding area is respectable . Our first room was smaller than expected & next door to a noisy resident .We asked to be switched the next day & we were provided with a larger double room -much better. Reception staff were pleasant & efficient. We had breakfast in several of the near by coffee shops -at a fraction of the cost .Would use again.

Good hotel in good location, comfortable and very clean. Only issues overly bright fluorescent light over bathroom mirror and 2 large single beds together to form double bed, rather than a double mattress.

My daughter and I really enojoyed our visit here. The staff is very helpful and attentive. We had several meals in the restaurant, which was a great value...One night I had steak, she had sea bass. With wine and tip, it was less than $30. We could walk to the Prado for a visit or Retiro Park to jog. Starbucks is just around the corner if you must have a coffee fix or grab a sandwich. Taxis can be at the door in less than 5 minutes. Don't forget to go to the Sunday flea market!

Madrid is a city of spread attractions. What is usually referred to as the city center (Sol / Gran Via) really isn't. It's a little more north around Colon, and well this hotel is a stroll way which on the path you'll incounter all sorts of big chain and small mom and pop shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and really all of Madrid is walking distance away from the hotel. During my stay i've been able to comfortably walk from G. Versalles to Pl. Castilla, La Latina, Ventas(Bull Ring), etc. Great location. Very quiet during the night, which makes it even better if you decide to go out. You have clubs and bars across the street, and the last thing you want after a long night out is noise to keep you up when all you want is sleep. So I highely recommend it. It was a street away from the party scene and I slept like a rock, no disturbance what so ever.... Perfect!!!

Absolutely a wonderful experience! It's not exactly in the middle of Madrid when referring to attratactions such as the Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, Sol, etc... However it is walking distance to Colon and Barrio Salamanca which if you like to shop, that's your stop. It's in Alonso Martinez which is very well commuted by metro and bus and crossing the street your in the middle of nightlife. You have Tribunal and Chueca and after a small walk to through the neighborhood you'll find yourself on Gran Via. Truly there's no better nightlife crammed into an area, you have Pacha, which in Madrid truly lives up to it's reputation. You have as well Chueca, which is the area for the gay and hetero-modern community, definitely a night in the neighborhood is a must. I can't express how amazing the location was!!!

Stayed for 3 nights at this pleasant hotel in madrid near the alonso martin metro stop. Very clean, staff helpful. The room was perhaps a little on the smallish side but adequate enough by european standards. Didn't go for the 11 Euro breakfast as there's a buffet place across the road which provides better value. In conclusion a hotel that is easy to recommend.

I found all the staff very helpful (good english spoken), room clean , modern, great value for money - ideal location (nr metro and parks)..would go back again without hesitation...spot on !!!!!

Overall this is a good hotel to stay good location, good services. Room is clean too. However, the insulation is not as good. For the both nights we stayed at the hotel, noise from next room customers (from both sides) were traveled through the wall very laud.

This is a lovely hotel. Our room was spotless. Location is just across the road from Alonso Martinez Metro station - very handy location. Breakfast was not included with my room, but was available for eur11 which is a little pricey when you see whats available nearby. Staff helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend it and will be back.

i stayed here with my 8 year old son for a weekend break in madrid. the hotel was located in a quiet area but still very close to the city centre. the metro station Alonso Martinez was just across the road. the hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and english speaking. i would definately recommend this hotel and use it again myself.

The hotel was in a perfect location - close or very walkable to most sights, also with metro 100 metres away. Much quieter than hotels in night life area and very comfortable. Obviously more expensive than two stars, but the difference in price was well worth it. Would certainly go back.

The receptionist was extremely helpful. Room was very clean and nice.

Comfortable hotel close to shopping and tourist sites .

We enjoyed our stay and felt the Hotel was good for our requirements. Easy access from Airport via Metro and reasonable walking to Prado and the other central areas - with the option of a mtro trip back to help the feet if needed. I would agree with other comments I read that the sound-proofing is poor especially on the bathroom area (waste pipes noisy) but really no other critisisms

This hotel was first-rate and very convenient, 1+ blocks from a Metro and a great tasca.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, it was very central and close to the Metro, hotel staff were very nice and friendly, the only reservation I would have is that there was no coffee making facilities in the room and the internet cost €17.50 for 24 hours when it stated on the website for €6.

As it was our first visit i had no idea of where to stay in madrid. thankfully i made the right choice. The hotel lived up to all my expectations. It was close to all the sights and public transport and i would certainly recommend it to others

Nice quiet location - a 10 minute walk from the fab, tendy Chueca district and only about 20/25 minutes walk to Plaza del Sol and the city centre. Hotel itself is fine. Nothing dazzlingly special but the rooms are clean and fairly spacious. Desk staff are friendly and helpful.

We spent a long weekend here and were impressed by the standard of the accommodation considering the price that we paid, and the central location. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there was always someone there in the middle of the night to open the door for us! The room was cleaned thoroughly each day. We would definitely return here.

What else can I say? The room was nice, but nothing outstanding. Service was friendly. The location was OK, about 15-20 minute walk from the major destinations (Gran Via, Prado Museum). No notable restaurants in the vicinity, but great bar/party street nearby (C. Hortaleza). Reasonable value, but not outstanding.

Dont usually stay in hotel in Madrid when visiting my son, but this time I did. Gran Versalles is a lovely Hotel with everything you could want. Helpful staff make you feel welcome, and speak brilliant English. Lovely relaxing reception area. Brilliant location in nice side street with easy access to metro station. Did not eat in hotel, plenty of places to eat close by. Madrid never sleeps, but, room very quiet, clean and comfortable bed, also had good air conditioning. I am fussy when it comes to hotels as I remember working hard in one. I certainly recommend this one. Stay in Madrid its lovely.
