Hotel Colon Barcelona - Barcelona

Wij zijn 6 dagen in Barcelona geweest en Hotel Colon ligt op een geweldige lokatie. Tegenover de Cathedral, die helaas in de steigers staat en dus niet verlicht is 's avonds. Er zijn voldoende terrasjes rondom het hotel om een ontbijt te genieten. Kan ook in het hotel, maar dat wordt niet echt gepromoot en dat hebben we ook niet gedaan. Het weer was te mooi om binnen te gaan zitten. Verder is er een metro station vlakbij, de Ramblas is een paar minuten lopen en het hotel ligt in de Gothische wijk en vlakbij de wijk Ribera. Prachtige oude wijken met veel te zien, veel terrasjes, winkels en vooral 's avonds veel muzikanten op straat. Er hangt een gezellige sfeer. Wij hebben veel gezien in deze 6 dagen, maar nog lang niet alles en gaan beslist terug naar Barcelona en waarschijnlijk ook weer naar Hotel Colon. Een minpuntje vonden wij het feit dat de eigen laptop alleen gebruikt zou kunnen worden in de lobby en tegen betaling van ruim 10 euro per dag. Of men kan een pakket kopen en internetten op een scherm in de hotelkamer. Wij zaten op de 1e verdieping, hebben internet geprobeerd en het werkte prima. Waarom geld vragen voor iets wat het hotel weinig kost. Tenslotte is het hotel niet goedkoop.

Perfecte locatie, enige rustige plek in de Oude Stad gelegen aan aardig plein tegenover de Cathedraal. Fraai hotel! Vriendelijk en correct. Dus top en zeker terug..Echte aanrader waar ik per toeval bij uitkwam. Prima prijs en kwaliteit verhouding. Ik noteer hotel Colon voor iedereen die naar Barcelona wilt.

The hotel was across from one of Gaudi's churches. The square was closed off to cars and open to walking tourists. There were lots of street performers performing in front of the hotel every night. The action was entertaining and fun, but unfortunately it never ended. Our roomn was on the second floor facing the street and the Church. The street performers tapped on their drums all night long and we did not get any sleep the first night. I finally called the front desk at 05:30 am and complained. they were very apologetic and told us that they have called the police and the city many times to complain about this group of uncoperative performers. The next day they moved us to the fifth floor facing the back street. the room was huge with a huge balcony. We loved and enjoyed the accomodation for the next four nights. the people at the front desk were very helpful.

This hotel surely met every expectation: it was in the heart of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, rich with so much history from the times the Romans conquered and inhabited Spain. When you walk right out of the hotel, you are facing the Barcelona Cathedral and have restaurants and bars less than thirty seconds. All the metro lines stop within a five minute walk; you are only twenty minutes from the Mediterrean or two train stops. The hotel itself feels very antiquated, but has the important features one needs: High speed internet (free of charge-you just need to bring the blue cable), safe and minibar. I would recommend anybody visiting Barcelona seeking a safe, comfortable and convenient location to stay at Hotel Colon. Lastly, the hotel staff are all friendly and always willing to make suggestions where to visit. They are all very welcoming and make you feel at home.

hotel was very good,good sized room with small balcony overlooking the square, cathedral directly opposite. good base for exploring Barca. However not suitable ofor disabled people. only access to reception from the street was via 7/8 steps or by stair lift via restaurant entrance. stair lift limited in size and would not fit electric scooter. however porters very willing to lift scooter up the stairs everytime we came in or went out. lifts also on the small size and had difficulty fitting the scooter into them. but would still reccommend the hotel and staff. lovely restaurant La Locano as you exit the hotel turn immediate left and walk up the side street approx 100 meters

This hotel is in a perfect location especially for shopping and nightlife. The staff were very friendly and the hotel was very clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel and i would definitley stay here again.

The *perfect* location! The staff did its best to be helpful, especially Gregory. All spoke English and appreciated it when we *tried* a bit of Spanish. The goings on just outside the hotel's doors, in front of the cathedral will surprise you: Dances, flea maerkets and good ole people watching! A VERY short walk to a few amazing restaurants including La Vinateria del Call. I recommend this hotel *highly!*

Super location for hotel, however room location was in the back facing another wall of the hotel. Front locations are by far better for the scenery.

I loved this hotel. For the price I could not believe the room, the look of the whole hotel, the amenities, and the service. The service was truly exceptional, the hotel was very accomodating and knowledgable. The location could not have been more convenient!!! You are literally right in front of the cathedral which is the center of the town. You are a very short walk from Las Ramblas the main drag and La Boqueria Market. I stayed for 5 days and would return here in a hearbeat.

The hotel has a very good location. Its right in the square with Seu Cathedral. There are also some good restaurants in the square. The rooms are a good size and air con was great especially for the hot weather. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not use the restaurants but there was room service available and rooms were made up promptly.

Great location but the rooms are outdated and could use some modernization.

Loved the location of the hotel across from the Cathedral, also near the sight seeing bus line. only items i might change are the lack of ice in the room and also the size of shower stall. the glass retainer to keep water from spraying all over floor was only half the lenght of the tub. other than that-- great hotel to stay in. can be quite noisy ona Saturday night

Tired and worn hotel, with old, noisy rooms and tired and a bit surly staff in the absolute best location in the city.

...that's about all i can brag about. For a 4-star hotel, my single room was barely big enough to fit the single bed. The window overlooked a court yard used as storage or something so window was basically kept closed the entire time. the bathroom was ok. The tub didnt drain too well so i had to shut the water while shampooing and soaping. The most "modern" thing in the entire room was the small flat screen tv. In the end though, as a tourist, we spend minimum time in the room so location is the key. If you're willing to sacrifice comfort and quality, then Hotel Colon is hard to beat. My biggest problem is the 4-star label (and the price it comes with).

The hotel is in a very convenient location and has lots of "old-world" charm. Saying that a person needs to realize it is an older facility, so if a person is looking for modern conveniences, one would not find it at this hotel. However, the staff there is wonderful and the location is perfect! The bed was comfortable and the shower was great.

The Hotel Colon is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in during our European travels. It is located in the Gothic Quarter across the plaza from the Cathedral, and one short block from Las Ramblas. Location could not have been better for sightseeing the entire city! Staff was great and extra-ordinarily helpful. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a generous bath. We will definitely stay there again when we return to Barcelona! Our highest recommendations!

Super location across from the old part of the city across the square from the old cathedral. Real old time elegance with great front desk hospitality. Parking is convenient and they provide valet parking. Room was nice, although small, but as expected for an older European Hotel. Great Lobby and sitting area with WIFI in the bar and lobby. Ask for a room with a view, the rooms on the internal courtyard look across to other rooms 10 feet away.

Hotel Colon is exactly what we wanted (we booked 4 rooms the day before our cruise) Everything was right there, tour buses, cabs, outside cafes and we were even treated to a street concert..We really enjoyed the hotel and its location. The staff was really great, everyone spoke English and they did or helped us in every way they could.

I thought the hotel was very nice, and the staff was quite helpful and friendly. The location is great, near lots of great shopping and attractions. I would definitely stay here again.The only thing that was a little frustrating is that to get on the Internet, I had to take my laptop down to the lobby area to get connected. The wireless was not available in the room. However, it was free, just not convenient.

This is a nice hotel in a very good location. It is in a plaza with a cathedral and is a short walk to Las Rambles, Arc de Triumph and is close to at least three metro stops. There was satellite tv with three English stations in addition to a few in German, Italian and French. The satff was curteous and helpful. I would stay here again.

Great hotel, location. All staff friendly and helpful. I would stay there again and strongly recommend it.

I chose this hotel for its high ratings from others who had stayed there, which turned out to be accurate. I was extremely pleased as was my husband. The only suggestion/recommendation (perhaps complaint) is to consider that it is in a great location but which translates to noisy street activity throughout the night. You may want to request a room in the higher floors which might help or shut your balcony doors. However, consider that most hotels in popular European cities may have the same issue.

Everything about my stay at Hotel Colon was great. Clean, nicely appointed room, updated bathroom, reasonable price, TV selections in English, helpful hotel staff, fun outdoor drinks and dining on the busy promenade and a perfect central location.

This hotel is centrally located. If you want to enjoy the old part of Barcelona or just be near Las Ramblas, you can't do better for location than the Hotel Colon.

The location could not be beat, but the hotel itself is very much in need of an updating.

Service very poor they didn't know I wasa booked-in

Great location in center of historic Barcelona. Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke excellent english. Rooms somewhat old fashioned but bathroom and entertainment system (TV/internet) modern. Very happy with choice and would recommend.

This hotel is located next to the cathedral and in a wonderful old area for walking and shopping. We were treated to a large second floor room facing the cathedral although we had not requested this. The staff was very efficient and helpful. The only slight problem we had was not with the hotel but with our taxi ride to the cruise port. It would have been helpful if we had known the terminal number to aid the driver.

The room we had was tiny, with 2 very small single beds; even though we requested a room with a queen or king size bed.

I and my friend stayed in a single rooms which were both lovely, comfortable, very clean and with all the amenities - mini bar, safe, satelite tv & music, air con, basket of goodies in the bathroom etc.. The hotel staff spoke excellent english and were all very helpful. The restaurant is quite expensive and as breakfast was 15 euros we didn't sample it, but there are plenty of places near by to eat for far less. The best aspect about this hotel is the location - superb for accessing the Ramblas, Gothic Quarter, tourist buses and being located in a square, you don't get the noise of traffic. The hotel is opposite the Gothic Cathedral which is free to visit. Our rooms were located at the back of the hotel, which we were grateful for as we were away from the noise in the square and the hourly cathedral bells! The decor is quite old fashioned but has an element of charm about it. There are steps at the main entrance inside up to the reception area but if you call out someone will run down and carry your luggage for you! We would definitely stay here again. :)

Great Location. Close to La Rambla, and just a few steps away from pick-up stop for tour buses. Breakfast buffet was delicious and plentiful. We wanted to stay in a hotel with local ambience rather than a big chain, and we were not disappointed.

Every summer I take a 3 week trip. In the last city, I always book a great hotel for location and comfort. I want English speaking TV (CNN or BBC) and internet access. The hotel was comfortable with a great location...but the TV stations changed uncontrollably for hours and the internet cost 9 Euros for a "possible" connection. A desk clerk told me it does not always allow access to email. I just wanted 10 minutes! Great Room Great Location Horrible TV satellite/Cable EXPENSIVE internet!

The location of the hotel is perfect, about a 5 min walk from Las Ramblas and Catalunya plaza (where airport shuttle is from) and a 10 min walk to the beach. In a very busy little square with lots of restaurants and shops near by. The hotel itself is very nice when you walk in, but the rooms are stuck in the 70/80s they need to be updated. There are flat screen TVs in all the rooms. Rooms are a nice size. The hotel is no smoking but there are ashtrays in the rooms so people smoke and my hotel room smelled a little like smoke. The rooms are clean but dont necessarily seem so because of the outdated wall paper and bathrooms. Some pealing caulking in the bathroom, and bathroom lighting was not good. Breakfast is not worth the 17euros that they charge, I did not eat it. You can go down and have a look at it before they charge it to your room number. Nice little mini bar and room service menu with decent prices. There is a restaurant in the Hotel (separate from the breakfast room) and a Terraza (out door eating area). Sangrias are great. If you can get over the outdated hotel then I would recommend staying here, I would stay here again.

Older hotel but with a fantastic location. We evem had a view of the Cathedral from our room. Hotel staff was wonderful.

What a classy hotel! Great value! It is within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The hotel staff made sure that we didn't leave without giving us good advice about where not to go since Barcelona has more pickpockets and purse snatchers than any other city in Europe. Italian restaurant across the square is a great spot to catch quality meals at a good price. I would recommend this hotel and go there again without any hesitation.

Great location, but the air condtioner was broken & the walls were paper thin & cleaning staff were very noisy in the mornings.

The hotel was in an excellent location; the staff was extremely helpful; the rooms were very nice; the hotel's ambiance showed first class. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay there whenever visiting the Barcelona area.

We could not have asked for a better hotel stay. The Hotel was in a perfect location in the heart of Las Ramblas where we could easily walk to wherever we wanted to go. The staff was very helpful and all spoke English well. The hotel room was exactly what we expected, kind of bare minimum nothing fancy but very comfortable and clean. Our room opened to the view of the cathedral, very beautiful. The hotel staff was very quick to warn us of the pick pockets and to be very careful but we never experienced any problems or felt uncomfortable while we were out walking day or night. The hotel was a bit pricey but then everything (especially food) was very high. The dollar is not a good exchange to the euro so be ready to really spend a lot on everything. We would stay at Hotel Colon Barcelona again and would Highly recommend it.

This is an older hotel located on the plaza across from the old cathedral, which is both the best and worst thing about it. From a sight-seeing standpoint, it could hardly be better. It is within easy walking distance of shopping, restaurants, Las Ramblas, and several major tourist destinations. The room was a good size with 2 closets, though drawer space was somewhat limited. The bath was large with 2 sinks. However, even though it was Spring, the AC had some trouble cooling the room. We opened the french doors to our small balcony and enjoyed the breeze. However, the plaza is a favorite gathering place for locals who hang out until after midnight. There were loud conversations and a string of motorbikes which echoed off the stone walls. The garbage collectors made nightly visits too. Even with these inconveniences, I would recommend the hotel.

The Hotel Colon exceeded my expectations. We couldn't imagine a better location in Barcelona. Our room overlooked the cathedral and a beautiful square. It was clean and more than big enough. The staff were helpful and everyone spoke english. Best of all the price was very reasonable.

the staff at the Hotel Colon was extremely helpful when on our second day in Barcelona we were robbed while on a tour of the city. The staff went out of there way to help us report the loss of credit cards and give us directions to the Police station. Due to the robbery our stay in spain was cut short but we will remember the kindness of the staff.

I stayed at Hotel Colon Barcelona for one night after a cruise and was extremely pleased. My single room was quite spacious and had a private terrace - too bad it rained most of the time! The full size bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a shower plus jacuzzi tub as well as a basket of toiletries and "essentials", such as shampoo, lotion, etc. The television has satellite channels, including CNN (Europe version) and SkyNews. There is a way to plug-in your camera to the tv so you can view your photos - I did not have a usb cable with me so did not try it, but but would be fun to do next time I visit. The room has lots of storage space, with a large closet and several shelves to store luggage out of the way. There is a small fridge/mini-bar, which I did not use, so I don't know what the costs were. The location was amazing, sharing a plaza with the Cathedral. A real treat was watching the Sardana on the plaza that evening - wow! There were only two things that I wanted to comment about. One was a very strange noise that, at first, sounded like a baby crying, but then I realized it might be a door that needed its hinges greased. The sound continued sporadically throughout the night, but with no regularity. Very odd. I did not mention it to the desk staff, because I do not speak Spanish and did not think I could effectively communicate the situation to them. The only thing I was not pleased about was an unexpected visit from a maid on Saturday morning, shortly after I checked in. She did not knock before entering the room. I thought she was checking to be sure the room was ready, so allowed her to come in. She proceeded to open the doors to the terrace and make at least one phone call from her cell phone, then left the room. Quite odd. While I'm sure she is trustworthy, I decided to lock my suitcases before I left the room to explore Barcelona for the day, just as a precaution. All in all, I highly recommend the hotel and plan to stay there aga

Rooms were larger than expected. Ask to stay on floor 2 or above for view. Staff very nice. Wonderful location. Would stay there again.
