Dalton Hotel & Suites - Victoria

well, besides the construction noise and surrounding traffic noises right outside our room window.. there was no quaint cafe as mentioned on the website.The attached bar and restaraunt, which we received a 15%off food voucher for, turned out to be a bar with food(so my underaged sister was not allowed). there were signs saying opening soon; however, that didnt help when we were there for only 2 days. the tv was so old whenever it was on it kept buzzing a high pitched sound, and there was no mini fridge in the room. the bed was uncomfortable. next time i will spend a little more money and stay somewhere else. staff was nice though.

After reading the reviews I was hesitant about the Dalton. The price was the best for our needs so decided to give it a try. After sleeping in so many European hotels and getting mattresses as hard as rocks, this was not a detraction. The room we started with was nice, quiet and comfortable, however the toilet plugged up on the third day and we had to be moved to another room. It turned out to be smaller, warmer with a bad view, and noisey due to the ice machine and soft drink machine situated on the same wall as our bed's headboard. We were moved to a more deluxe room for the remaimder of our stay that had an extra sitting room with hide away bed. All in all the management was very nice and helpful. Can't say much for their so-called continental breakfast, but with a downtown location, eatting was not a problem. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Based on our stay at the Dalton in Victoria, I would recommend it as a good value, as it's a comfortable hotel in a great location. Just keep in mind that this is a two-star, older city hotel -- not a luxury resort, and I think you'll be satisfied. The hotel is very clean, our bed was VERY comfortable and the linens and bathroom were very nice too. We received a free continental breakfast with the stay - nothing fancy but enough to fill up on (waffles, fruit and cereal). The hotel is in a state of remodeling and appears to have been for some time, based on a guidebook I have, several of these reviews and this visit. I'm not sure what the final goal is, which does feel a bit odd. We did not notice any noise from the remodeling, but it appeared that none of the food establishments in the hotel were open due to this (hence, the free breakfast I guess). As noted, I thought this was a good value -- we wanted a place with a little bit of character, not just another chain, but with a good price and the ability to walk to everything in the downtown area and this was just that. The only downside I noted is that there was a movie theater across the street from our room, which created a bit of street noise later in the evening as some of the movie-goers left (but this was not as noisy as if it was next to a bar!).

We reserved three nights but were a bit apprehensive after reading other reviews. They postponed remodeling for the summer season, however, and we had a very quiet interior room. No AC, but three fans in the room worked well enough. Great neighborhood a short walk to main tourist attractions. Staff was excellent and brought us hair dryer and iron and stored our bags since we had a late ferry reservation. Solid value for budget travel, and they are adding kitchen suites for next season.

Old hotel, room did not look like those posted on internet. Surrounding area lower class business area. Complimentary breakfast was very good.

The brochure pictures make the rooms look great. The actual room we received felt rather small and plain. The room did have a window but it looked out to a solid brick wall about 4 feet away. The lighting in the elevator was very dim. Parking in the small lot was an extra $10 per night. The wireless internet worked great and the breakfast with fresh waffles was great.

Cheap hotel but not worth the saving. No air conditioning. Just provided a ceiling fan and a small fan. Very uncomfortable because it was so hot and humid! Room was very old and run down. They don't even provide iron and hair dryer.

I would stay there again. I enjoyed being down town and close to bus routes.

Parts of the hotel are being remodeled, but stairs into the construction zones are not clearly marked. The hotel is OLD and looks and smells its age. Our room was cramped with two double beds and just enough room on several of the sides to move through (one side you couldn't move through). The staff were nice and helpful, the breakfast was adequate and helped to defray the cost of the night. That said, the price was too much for what was offered at the Dalton.

While the hotel was in a convenient location and overall wasn't terrible, I was not totally satisfied. I don't believe my room reflected the price I paid, but the hotel is currently under renovation so that may change. Also, the 15% off food credit was not accepted at the restaurant it was promised for. On the positive side it was just a short walk from the Inner Harbour, tourist attractions and night life.

This will be a nice hotel once the renovations have been completed but only if the rooms are cleaned properly. Our room was dusty (ceiling fan blades were so dusty we weren't sure if we should turn it on) and night table had sticky rings from previous guests. Stale, musty odor that clung to clothing. Bathroom not as pictured on the internet, very dated and not clean smelling.

Convienent location downtown, close to harbor, shopping and attractions. Staff was very helpful and willing to be of service. Hotel is old and under going renovations, rooms are small and no AC just fans. House keeping needs to improve their proformance. Several small items did not work (TV remote, tub stopper, showerhead/water flow).The 15% of food could not be used because resteraunt and bar were never open. They charge extra for parking $10/night and added a power surcharge of $2/night.

The hotel had a GREAT location and the staff were very professional and helpful.

We enjoyed an excellent visit at the Dalton. You cannot beat this location, and everything was really beautifully handled: front desk was exceptionally nice, the breakfast was outstanding, room was comfortable and all we could want, the renovations are exciting and historically authentic while upgrading to the 21st century. We cannot recommend them highly enough - in fact, recommended them to my brother and fiancee for their honeymoon - and hope to come back ourselves someday soon.

If you love heritage sites but don't love the usual high rates associated with heritage hotels,the the Dalton Hotel is for you! Being over 100 years old,it is charming yet comfortable.I enjoyed looking at the beautiful crowned moldings in the eating area on the main floor. The "self-serve" Continental breakfast was a great little bonus. This hotel should be a 4 out of 5 star instead of 2!

Great location right in the middle of downtown. The room had a tiny floorboard heater and the room was freezing. It was comfortable by the morning though, so turn it on early. I don't think the sheets were cleaned and the bathroom wasn't the cleanest either. Service was very good and responsive.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. The room was clean and well maintained. The location could not have been better - walking distance to everything downtown.

No hot water, tiny room, pealing wall paper, lots of noise from traffic and drunks at bar closing time (2am)The clincher was when I checked out they tried to charge me $10.50 for parking, a charge not mentioned when I checked in - I did not pay. I would have been happier camping.

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the good price, great location and classic victorian feel for the hotel. We just wanted to get away for a weekend and this hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious and we loved the multiple showerheads in the shower :)

As a frequent visitor to Victoria over the past 35 years, I can assure you that the refurbished Dalton Hotel is clean, quiet, with a a decent bed for a great price in the heart of Downtown. A world of food, shopping and entertainment are steps from the front door. Let's face it, the only reason for a hotel room in Victoria is to have some place safe and private to drop your stuff, clean up, change clothes and fall into bed exausted. There is so much to see and do in Victoria you will spend very little time in your hotel - even in winter. The Dalton has WIFI, a good selection of cabel channels, a helpful and freindly staff. what more do you need?

Our room was fabulous and the location was great. Our only complaint was that the hot water for the shower was somewhat sporadic.

It is a typical "English" Hotel-small rooms and not all that quiet. Good Location though, and affordable for Victoria. One note of caution-it does not appear that this hotel has air conditionin0g-at least my room didn't. Fortunately it was cool when we were there. This could be a real concern in the hottest months, however.

The hotel is older but they are upgrading. We stayed in a Boutique room which is a recent remodel which was comfortable and we had air, others do not. Only real complaint is the showers were hit and miss, most were lukewarm or cold. Parking is in an otdoor lot and the neighborhood is questionable. Located within blocks of the Inner Harbour. Okay for the money but don't expect luxury.

We thought this hotel was great. The other reviews made it sound dated and far from the action, but it wasn't. It's not the most modern hotel, but not bad at all. It's right off of Douglas St., a street with lots of shops. It's near the Bay shopping center and two movie theaters. There are lots of great coffee shops near by and Government street is just a few blocks a way. Also, it's right next to a fabulous sushi restaurant, highly recommended by one of the friendly receptionists. We chose this hotel because it was cheaper than the ones right on Government and we were glad we did - it was great and probably just as good as the others!

The room just had enough room for the beds and hardly anything else. The washroom was dated and needed some work..the fan did not work so when you took a shower the room would fog up alot. Also no air conditioning on the some of the hottest days. :-( The best part of the hotel was how close it was to down town, food, and shops.

Nice clean and affordable if you are looking for a more inexpensive option in the heart of dowtown victoria this hotel is great. The feel is a little retro with the carpet in the hallways kinda of like the 70's meets grandma's house, but the service was good the staff was helpfull and it was conviniet to all the action. The rooms were clean and well kept with a guest bedroom feel like a b and b in europe. overall we were please evethough the fake plants were tacky. This is a great hotel for young couples who don't need all the bells and whistles like room service and who are on a budget.

Just like most of the reviews I read before I booked, I too found the rooms quite out-dated. But other than needing a remodel, the hotel was clean, very accommodating and friendly. The location was great for attending a show at the Royal Theater, but for a more a slightly more centralized location to shops and tourist areas, try something on Government Street.

Die Zimmer sind sehr klein, Fenster in den Innenhof, Fernseher funktionierte nicht, die Lage zu weit weg vom Hafen für einen Kurzaufenthalt, kont.Frühstück i.O. Gesamtbewertung fällt nicht gut aus, aber auch durch Regenwetter beeinflusst.

Hôtel bien situé au centre de Victoria. Bon rapport qualité-prix. Petit déjeuner TB. Décoration un peu vieillotte. Propreté qui mériterait d'être améliorée. Isolation phonique insuffisante.
