West Side Inn Hotel & Hostel - New York

Gezien de prijs een redelijk hotel. Ik heb er goed geslapen en er zijn goede eetgelegenheden in de buurt.

het enige positieve aan dit hotel is de plaats in de stad : rustig, vrij centraal en ' alles' in de buurt.(winkels en leuke restaurantjes) van te voren las ik (te laat!) de revieuws van anderen en ik dacht : Nou, dan kan het alleen maar meevallen. Maar nee hoor, ondanks dat viel het niet mee. Alle slechts over dit hotel klopt!

The price & location was great but the hotel stay was very depressing. No bright lighting, no aircondition, no positive atmosphere.

This was my absolute worst hotel experience of my life. I paid a pretty penny to stay in this hotel that looked like a home which was turned into a hotel. One of the desk staff was absolutely rude and shows no sympathy for the guests what so ever. The walk-in area displayed an old 1970’s look, the tile floors were cracked, the crevices of the ceiling had molding and were dirty, the so called leather chairs were ripped and worn down from over the years and the elevator was completely crappy and was out of service, actually, we got stuck in it, because there was no out of service sign. After we got out of the elevator the only staff told us to not use it because it did not work and he then placed an out of service sign on the door. The area of this hotel was horrific. As for the room, we were told we would get a [two bed] room and we got one small room no bigger than 10x10, with one twin size bed. The carpet was dirty and old, the sheets and towels were disgusting, the paint on the walls were chipped to its worst state, water pipes were running through the ceiling up from the floor and the “working” TV with “cable” wouldn’t even turn on. There was no air conditioning but only one small blowing fan. Keep in mind that the rooms do not come with a bathroom, but instead it (meaning one per floor) was located directly down the hall for everyone to use. It had urine encircled around the toilet, and the bath tub was completely unacceptable. Unbelievably, I had to carry my two children down the street to some random restaurant so that they could use the bathroom. My family and I were very unsatisfied; we left the next day, w/o our refund. Would not recommend to anyone!

For someone who only needs a place to sleep, this is perfect. It's may be old but it's clean, very cheap, quiet and the shower works. I slept my 8 hours nicely. It's also very well location : 3 minutes walking from Central Park or from the Metro. I'm keeping this address.

This is a not an enjoyable environment for the children. I would treat this as my last alternative but even with that I would consider another option. Staff was great but the fact of a bathroom/ shower being outside of our room just didn't sit with me well.

No chair or closet in the room with a twin bunkbed, TV not operating, long line for access to Internet via the only two computers in use, and bathrooms were very clean though one toilet clogged once while staying at the inn for two nights. There was no central air conditioning but a portable electric fan kept the room cool enough to sleep comfortably. The elevator was out of order, but walking up and down three floors was a fitted workout.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly any time we had questions. The hostel is about 3 blocks from a train station, but easily within walking distance. Unfortunately, the bunk beds are pretty tough to sleep on. VERY thin mattress and very uncomfortable. The rooms are small too, even more so than I anticipated as I have stayed at other hostels before. The walls are pretty thin, but there is not much if any street noise, and sleep isn't interupted. I would recommend this hotel for the price, staff, and overall quiet.

Location is great. But upkeep of the hotel is not great. Bunk bed looked like they would collapse...luckily they didn't. Bathroom was convenient but not always accessible. Fairly clean. You get what you pay for, but I just expected a little better.

it was basic accomodations - the hotel did not have internet access as stated in its ad

We were utterly disappointed in this hotel. Sticky mice traps were placed under the bed and chest of drawers. Some guests reported actual mice in their rooms. The overflowing, stopped up toilets presented a health hazard. There is a TV in the room, but the reception makes it unwatchable and there are no remote controls. No rubbish bins in room. Windows are unlockable and drafty. We had booked two nights, but left after the first night for a cleaner and more comfortable hotel.

I was in NYC for a 3-night stay. This hostel was located 3 blocks from the subway and had a great selection of restaurants nearby. The hostel itself is older--the shower water is kinda touchy as far as temp is concerned and the elevator was broken. But overall, it was a nice stay. :e)

It's a hostel, so don't expect much and you won't be disappointed! The building is old and fairly worn, which is somewhat typical for New York City. The bathrooms were clean, and the sheets and towels appeared clean. Couldn't turn down the heat and it was blazing hot in the room. TV worked fine. Extremely convenient to buses and subway! For the price, it's not a terrible deal, but there are better hostels in the city.

This hotet/hostel is located in a very nice neighborhood of NYC. Just a train ride away from the many major sites in NY. However, the beds are not very comfortable, and if you stay during the winter - bring your own comforter. None was provided during my stay, and they hardly gave any heat. It was very cold. But the price is great, and you get what you paid for.

Hotel was exactly what I expected for the price. It was very convenient to my destination - Columbia University. The bathrooms were clean. The other guests were quiet. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly.

This was the dingiest hotel or hostel I've ever stayed in. And I didn't feel safe with the flimsy lock on my door.

Let's face it -- we didn't expect five star accommodations, but we did expect a bed without the springs poking beneath the "no padding" mattress. We asked for an extra blanket and pillow because there was no heat (mid 40's both nights). Our request was denied. The staff was not very friendly, and the bathrooms weren't cleaned the entire time we were there. We just wanted a decent and clean place to sleep because we were out the bulk of the day and only returned to the hotel to drop off packages and then to sleep after dinner. We were given two towels and no wash cloths. Don't waste your money or time.

There are a few points I'd like to make about this Hotel/Hostel: My boyfriend & I stayed here from mid-August for 3 nights. We were visiting from Los Angeles, California, and this was our first time in the city (as adults). Neither of us are very picky when it comes to living situations. After reading the reviews here, I was a bit skeptical but we figured we'd save money (and stay the rest of our vacation with friends who live in Williamsburg). We figured it'd be a lot like camping. In preparation for our stay, and based on some of the reviews, I brought our own towels and bed linens along with us. Neither of them were necessary as the ones provided were clean (although quite cheaply made). Our room was on the 5th floor. The elevator worked sporadically so it was necessary to take the stairs on a few occasions. Many of the stairs are in disrepair! While neither my boyfriend nor I have any physical disabilities, I would not recommend this hotel for people with physical handicaps as it is clearly not compliant with accessibility regulations. The room contained a bed, a chest of drawers, a television w/stand, a closet, and a big oscillating fan (which was very handy). The window opened, and heat was never an issue for us. The temperature in the room was pleasant throughout our stay. The bathrooms were a different story. Our first visit to the bathroom was a bit shocking: there was incredibly filthy toilet, and overflowing trash bin with bloody feminine products & tissues (sorry to be gross, but this is the truth). The floor was wet and a bit muddy. The smell was disgusting and akin to an outdoor toilet/portable one. (In fact, I've been in cleaner public toilets than this one!) We decided to use another floor for our trips to the bathroom -- none of which, of course were by any stretch clean or "nice". The room was very small...going there was a bit like camping in New York, with a TV, air conditioning and very squeaky beds. Bathrooms are shared. Everything is old, and a bit richety, but cleanliness is not a problem. It's on a safe street in a safe neighborhood. If you don't mind roughing it and you need a very cheap price,then this would be a good place for you. But it is far from midtown, so if you want to spend time there you are going to need a cab or use the buses and subway. The staff aren't especially helpful but they aren't rude either.

I did not have great expectations of this place because I knew that it was a hostel and not a hotel. However, even a hostel could provide bathrooms that are somewhat maintained. The shared bathroom had a constant two inchaes of standing water on the floor due to the fact that there were no bath mats and no proper drainage on the floor. The tub did not drain, so by the time you were finished with your shower, you were standing in a tub full of water. There were no hooks or towel bars to hang your belongings. The only place to out your clean clothes was on the toilet or on the soaking wet floor! Yuk! They played techno music in the lobby all night - loudly. The room istelf was just what you would expect from a hostel. Not too bad - not too comfortable either though. But, the price was the lowest in NYC.

the price is right but no cable no air.Did not want to be in room so you see more of NY.

Room was tiny. Had bunk beds made for children, with little ladder for tykes. Pillows were squishy and wholly inadequate. Some days/nights were cold and damp and innkeepers provided no heat. Bathing faclities were adequate. Hotel staff were polite and friendly. Plenty of maps and other guidebooks were available.

the hotel is very old and need imorovement very bad . are room was very dirty the sheets had hair in the sheets so we sleep on top of them . there was no air in was very hott and theres no garable cans in the rooms would not recommend this hostel try for a different hostel or hotel

For what you pay to stay here it's totally fine. The bed is hard as a rock. And the kitchen in my hall at least was really creepy. But the room and bathrooms were clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Also the area it's in is pretty nice.

The Westside Inn and Hostel is reasonably price and well located. The only draw back to hotel is its rooms are small and without closets. The doors to the rooms have multiple coats of paint on them as do the windows. The bathrooms are the most modern part of the hotel. The beds are comfortable but the comforters are a little ragged. You can get fresh towels on request, otherwise you use the same towels for the length of your stay.

The buildinjg is horrible and tenebrous, but when you open the room's door it change at all. Inside your room everything is OK.

Most horrible place, we have ever been to. Room was stinking horribly and we could hardly sleep. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Cold!!! No heat.

It's a cheap hotel. But the bed is firm. Bring your own reading light and ear plugs.

I read reviews of this hotel before I booked it and was well aware that this was on the low end of the hotels. The room was clean, one of the beds was a queen and had a full box spring so we had to prop the mattres with our carry on luggage to be able to sleep at night. The room was heated very well, we were never cold, in fact we had to open the window one night to cool the room off. Be very careful when you take a shower! Use one towel for the floor so you will not slip and make sure you start with cold water in the shower because the hot water is like Lava! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The subway is near by and many places to eat. You could not ask for a better location. This is not a chain hotel...if you want one of them...then book and pay the difference. If you are not going to spend much time in the room and want a good deal with a great location....this is a great deal

Could have been cheaper and the elevator did not work, probably never works. Besides that it was alright. Bathroom always clean...

This one would fit for an horror movie set, a communist prison or some of the like.

The price was reasonable, provided that it is in Manhattan. However, the room was smaller than expected, and the amenities were not particularly good. The collodor was dark and scary.

I was totally suprised that hotel.com would even have a hotel such as this on their list. This hotel was one of the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. My 15 year old son was very disgusted with the whole atmosphere. Imagine a place like this still exist and in Manhattan. I was totally appauled that it is even called a hotel. Never, Never again.

After reading the reviews on this hotel, my friend and I knew what to expect but we book it anyways because it was affordable. The moment we arrived, the hotel lobby didn't look as bad as I thought it would and the front deck guy was nice. As soon as I got in the small creepy elevator and once the door opened it was downhill from there. I was litterly afraid of what was going to jump out. The hallways were dark and gloomy, the doors were painted a dark red color, it seems like I was in a horror movie. We hurried and found our room and it wasn't as small as I expected. You basically get what you pay for. Not only did our heater didn't work, it made a weird noise and we we're freezing the whole night. The bed was very uncomfortable, it felt like we we're sleeping on a box spring mattress. The walls are paper thin, you can hear people walking up and down the hallways and the people next door. OTHER then that, the hotel was in a GREAT location! the subway was only two blocks away. TIPS if you deciding to stay here: 1. On the airplane, try to grab at least 2-3 of those free blankets because you can drape them over the bed in the hotel room and lay on them instead of the dirty sheets. 2. Pack extra towels. You wouldn't want to use theirs and they can also be used as pillows.

The room was clean. The bathroom facilities were adequate but the hot water was scalding and there probably should be some warning signs. I suppose that is better than a lack of hot water! The staff was very friendly and courteous. This hotel is perfect for one person or a couple on a budget. Very convenient to the subway. The neighborhood appeared to be safe and well-lit at all hours.

This is a hostel and I loved it. It is in a quiet nyc neighborhood, but close to the subway...5 min to times square. If you are expecting 5 star hotel, you will be disappointed. But otherwise, it's for the healthy explorer.
