Hotel Damrak - Amsterdam

The location on Damrak was convenient to trams and to Dam Square and to the train station. There is an included breakfast of hard-boiled eggs, ham and cheese slices, and cereal. The bread was sometimes stale. There was no phone in our room, but they did send someone to knock on the door in lieu of a wake up call. The beds were comfortable enough. The TV sound kept going in and out and the remote did not work.

You are simply paying for location here. It is very close to Central Station, Dam Square, and the Red Light District. CONS: There is a ok restaraunt on the 1st floor which made it hard to find. The hallways in the hotel were 40 degrees, the room took a day to warm up, we had a lovely view of the fire escape, bathroom was really small, warm water in the shower has little to no pressure, the elevator was broken, and the TV in the room looked to be from 1983. PROS (had to get creative to have more than one pro): Location is great. The bathroom floor is yellow, so if you miss the toilet...it doesn't matter. lol.

Hotel Damrak - well situated in Amsterdam within reasonable walking distance of Amsterdam central Station. Good quality for the money. Not the cleanest place in the world although not dirty. Bit old and shabby but quite comfortable. Continental breakfast included in cost with full English available for extra cost. Staff friendly. Would certainly go back.

If you are choosing between Hotel Damrak and De Korenaer, the major difference between them is their stairwells. De Korenaer has a very difficult spiral staircase to navigate while Hotel Damrak has a standard stairwell that you would expect. They both have a lift but just in-case you need to use the stairs it is nice to know this information. I would recommend Hotel Damrak to my friends in the younger generation. The rooms are pretty basic (bed, table, chair, tv, and bathroom).

I had booked a single room which turned out to be little more than a broom cupboard decorated in a shade of 70's brown. It actually looked as if the room had been preserved from the '70's. The (single) bed was lop-sided and I had one of the most uncomfortable nights sleep in a long time. The soap dispenser was empty, the breakfast was basic, and quite honestly I would never stay there again. It's the sort of place if you were in your late teens or early twenties and were looking for a place to crash after a hard night out, it might just be about acceptable.

the location was great for the price. Staff was very helpful. You get what you say for.

the best thig about Damrak hotel is it's nearness to everything. based on the main hub from Centraal station to Dam sqaure, you can get trams taxis or (recommended) hire a bicycle from companies (there are a few) near by. the room i was in was as shabby as most Amsterdam's hotels and the cleaning staff didn't seem to get to all the corners. the price was good for August and it was a late booking (just fancied a break). as with most hotels close to the centre the stairs, lift, corridors and doors are ongoing with pips 24/7, so if you're after a quiet night or a siesta...forget it. staff are friendly and speak several languages and the restaurant on street level is 8/10.

Easy to walk to from Central Station. Convenient to local sights. Staff was very freindly. It is in a little busy section of town and may not be the nicest hotel, but given the price and location I would stay here again.

For the price you pay your better off going somewhere else. The room when we arrived was disgusting. Everything in the room was old and broken and looked like it was built in the 70's. Our sheets had human hair on them and stains the towels too, and the bath tub was filthy. Only after i asked them to give us clean sheets did they with the denial of not changing them. Save your cash and and goto a better place!

Dingy loby with lots of smoking. Breakfast was not good at all. The only thing good about this hotel it was close to alot of things. way too much money for what we got.

We arrived early, 10:00 AM. Check is is at 2 PM. No bell boy available. The luggage had to be put in storeage in the basement and you had to take it down the stairs on your own. No elevator avalible to go downstairs. We checked in at 2 PM. It was a hot day. We were give a room on the top floor but the elevator did not go to the top floor so we had to carry the luggage up one flight of stairs on our own to find a hot room with no air conditioning. We complained and were advised that no other rooms are availble but that we will have AC in 10 minutes. Someone brought up a 12 inch fan which did nothing. The refrigerator was not usable because it has not been defrosted in months. The room was otherwise clean. The staff / reception was not helpful or friendly at all.

My wife and I stayed one night and felt dirty when we left. The room is filthy and way too expensive for the room.The hotel is located where you want to be but I would rather catch the metro or cab to the center from another hotel futher out. All hotels are overpriced in Amsterdam but if you look you will find better. If you are there at the center you have to stop in the Grasshopper! thats the best bar around and feels like being in a bar back home. Take to bicycle taxis and tip good they will pedal you all around and give you the best tour. Remember Paris is a 1hr train ride and so is London. I love Brussels and lived there for 3 years so I highly recommend visiting and it is a must to get a pita.

Very convenient location in heart of Amsterdam. Room small but clean and bathroom was spotless. Great shower.

The location was great. Only real complaint was our room was on floor seven and the elevatore only went to floor six. The stairway up to seven was steep and had no railings and it was difficult to carry baggage up. The room was clean, only one window opened and it was warm in the afternoon. The beds were not very comfortable but if you are not spending a lot of time in your room it was really satisfactory.

We were looking for a cheap place near the Red Light district and this place is what we chose. The rooms are small, but we had 3 guys and wanted the 4 twin beds. Bathroom was really small and not maintained great, but overall it was close to everything and it worked just fine. Have not stayed at another hotel in Amsterdam to compare it to, so its hard. Decent place.

I will go out of my way, in the future to stay at the hotel damrak. The picture in hotels.com did not do it justice as I found it to be delightful and the service and location far exceeded my expectations. I understand that it is difficult for hotels.com to catch all of the essence of this charming hotel, but I assure you that if you choose this hotel you will not be sorry.

Hotellet ble stengt av myndighetene den dagen vi skulle reise hjem. Av hvilkene grunner vet vi ikke, men kan tenke vårt etter å ha bodd der i 3 dager. Håndklær var ikke rene, glass / plastkrus på rommet var mangelvare. Frokosten var så som så, manglet blandt annet te.

l'hotel n'était pas génial mais le personnel trés agréable, la chambre sans fenêtre pour pouvoir voir l'extérieur était un point trés négatif mais l'hotel a une trés bonne situation en plein centre d'Amsterdam

Billederne af hotellets værelser og de faktiske værelser, er en verden til forskel. Værelset vi fik virkede ekstremt nedslidt og i meget dårlig stand. En skuffende oplevelse.

Eau froide uniquement aux heures de pointe, et aussi buffet de petit déjeuner pauvre et non re-garni, c'est dommage car les chambres sont très calmes et la localisation de l'hotel centrale et très pratique

fint lille hotel. til prisen nok lidt bedre end man kan forvente. værelserne er til at sove i og var fint rene. Morgenmaden tager den første sult. Ligger suværent i forhold til den gamle bydel og de "røde" lygter....

L'Hotel Damrak ha un duplice vantaggio: la vicinanza alla stazione (collegata anche all'aereoporto) ed il prezzo accessibile (considerato che siamo ad Amsterdam).Ciò detto,le 3 stelle di cui si fregia la struttura ci sono sembrate eccessive: 1) la camera,una tripla,era piuttosto piccola; 2) la pulizia mediocre(asciugamani non sempre 'bianchi'); 3)un solo asciugacapelli 'vagante' per le camere; 4)bagno modesto-quantunque abbastanza pulito;6)colazione a buffet per soddisfare solo chi ha al mattino è affamato.In ultmo aggiungo guasto all'ascensore.

The hotel is located bang in the center, it is clean and the bathrooms are clean and nice. There is however a strong smell of mould on several of the floors and in some rooms. Further the internet connection does not work everywhere.

Lamentable. Une chambre très exigue qui est plus une cellule, du mobilier hors d'age abimé, pas de petit déjeuner avant 7h, prélèvement de la CB avant l'arrivée, pas de possibilité de facture. Et je ne suis pas le seul mécontent vu le nombre de clients furieux à la réception. Le seul intéret : l'emplacement, très proche de la gare et des quartiers animés.

Shabby rom, men hyggelig betjening og ok renhold. De gjør så godt de kan og det duger. Enkel frokost, men også greit nok som alternativ til å spise frokost ute. Veldig sentral beliggenhet, 5min. gange til Central Station, mange små puber og restauranter i umiddelbar nærhet.

Veramente pratico per la vicinanza alla stazione centrale e piazza dam. L'albergo è pulito ed il personale è gentile e disponibile.

L'hotel est très bien placé (proche gare) et les lieux de visites sont accessibles rapidement même à pied. Le service est decevant et la qualité des chambres est moyenne. Toutefois si cet hotel ne vous sert qu'à dormir, il sera parfait.
