St. James Hotel - Times Square - New York

It's a nice Hotel, without carparking and breakfast, but on a good location next to times square. Only negative points about this hotel are the short beds, (1.80/1.90 meter) and the amount of noice in your room if you sleep on the streetside.

Het St. James hotel is een hotel dat slechts twee blokken van Times Square ligt en toch hebben wij niks van al het rumoer gehoord! Wij sliepen op de 12e verdieping aan de achterzijde, wellicht was dit een goede plek. De kamer is netjes, groot voor New Yorkse begrippen (wij hadden kamer 1209), schoon en niet onbelangrijk; er zit airco in. De zomers in NY kunnen behoorlijk heet zijn, dus airco heb je echt nodig! Vooral de uitvalsbasis van dit hotel was super. De volgende keer dat ik naar NY ga, boek ik dit hotel weer. Prijs kwaliteit is ook goed.

Prima hotel, goede ligging, schoon, redelijke bedden, geen slecht woord over te zeggen

Een keurig, schoon en net hotel op een perfecte lokatie op zo'n 150 meter van Broadway en Timesquare en dus midden in het leven dat NY-heet. Vriendelijke mensen en kaartjes voor voorstellingen of tourbussen zijn in de hal te krijgen. Geen PC-aansluiting, maar in de hal staan tegen geringe betaling PC's. Natuurlijk kun je voor deze prijs geen grote kamers verwachten, maar ze zijn schoon en netjes en met name de badkamer.

Functionele, schone kamer en badruimte, vriendelijke service. Matige bedden, maar beslist goed te doen. Voldoende om fris elke dag New York weer in te stappen. In de lounge 3 computers met internet tegen kleine vergoeding. Bijzonder goed gelegen. Diners, restaurants, shops, theaters, musea binnen loopafstand.

Zeer eenvoudig hotel in het hart van Time Square. De kamers zijn echt piepklein, maar de bedden zijn goed. We hadden een bad met een goede douchekop en een flinke straal. Onze kamer was aan de achterzijde van het hotel, dus van het lawaai van straat hadden we geen last. Wel zoemde er 24 uur per dag een airco of zoiets. We hebben daarom oordoppen gekocht en dat werkte uitstekend. Wij zaten op de 11e verdieping en waren daardoor verplicht de lift te nemen. Deze was heel erg traag en soms duurde het wel 5 minuten voordat we konden instappen: Lopend waren we veel sneller geweest. Het is een relatief goedkoop hotel in het hartje van de stad, dus wat konden we er meer van verwachten. Voor een verblijf ik NY is het prima, want we hebben er echt alleen maar geslapen en de rest van de tijd waren we de hort op! Nu ik de stad een beetje ken, zou ik de volgende keer een hotel uitzoeken in een andere wijk. Iets rustiger en iets meer ruimte voor hetzelfde geld.

prachtige locatie -nette kamers - airco zelf te bedienen - wc + recente douche werkt uitstekend - soms wat last van straatgeluid vroeg in de morgen (straatkant) open 24/24. 24h shop naast hotel - metro vlakbij. Zou direct teruggaan !

Vlak bij Times Square, dus gezellig, veel drukte en veel winkels. Op loopafstand van MOMA en St. Patricks kathedraal. Wel gaat het lawaai ook 's nachts door, zeker bij kamer aan de voorkant . Bediening is vriendelijk en de kamer schoon. Ontbijt niet inbegrepen, maar dat kan bij de buurman!

De kamers die wie hadden (2 kamers met een 2 persoonsbed) waren aan de kleine kant. Op internet stond dat er een föhn zou zijn. Geen föh gezien! Beneden was er een ruime lounge met bar, maar de bar was dicht! Terwijl ze animo genoeg hadden, om hem open te gooien, want iedere avond zaten er mensen in de lounge. Het enige grote pluspunt was, dat het vlak bij Times Square lag.

Kleine kamers maar wel schoon en uitstekende service. Locatie is SUPER, 1 min verwijderd van Times Square/Broadway en zo'n 5 minuten lopen van Central Park. Zeer zeker een aanrader! Vooraal voor deze prijs. Zal hier zeer waarschijnlijk nog wel een keer naar terugkeren. Tevens zijn er (grote) lockers aanwezig om eventueel bagage in op te slaan. (check-out time is 12:00pm en onze vlucht vertrok pas om 22:00 pm dus de lockers waren zeer welkom!) (en nog een smoking room ook)

Voor een goede prijs een leuk hotel in New York. Absoluut een aanrader. Het is perfect gelegen, paar min van Times Square!

Goed verzorgd hotel op TOP locatie

de Locatie is top zeker voor de jaarwisseling op times square, zit het hotel heel dicht bij en centraal. naast het hotel zit een top deli (the Cranberry) met zeer goed eten en voor een goede prijs wat je mee je hotel in kan nemen of daar opeten. de kamer is heel klein en sober maar wel netjes en schoon met aardig lobby personeel. Ga je niet met nieuw jaar zou ik eerder bij Central park in de buurt logeren is iets minder druk en mooier dan Times square.

Well we got what we paid for, it was cheap and in a good location by Broadway etc, however it took a local NYC Taxi Driver 3 attempts to find it!!! Thew room was ready for us, it was a little bit worn hotel and the front staff didnt really seem to know what eachother were doing, it wasnt a very happy desk but hey it did us for the night. The air con was noisy but acceptable, it just wasnt anything to write home about, we then stayed in the Ameritania for 4 nights as planned which was fantastic value and right next door to where the letterman show is filmed, brilliant staff and good rooms. The St James is a budget hotel with a relatively good location but with little character and no enthusiam from the staff...... sorry

The hotel was very clean and a very good location, my only concern that i had was the hotel dind't provide a safety deposit box for the guests, but other than that i would go back again.

My friend and I stayed at the St. James hotel for 2 nights in Sept and when we came to the room our room, our key did not work for the lock of the door. They had given us the wrong key to the door. When we got the right key for the door, it still didnt work and had to get maintainance up to fix the lock. When we got into the room we realised that the hotel room window faced the main road leading to Time Square and was not double glazed for sound proofing. We could hear every truck/vehicle and emergency siren in the area of Manhattan. We was not informed of this when we checked in. A piece of the window was held in place by duck tape. Very unprofessional. Staff was not very friendly. I will not be staying at this hotel again.

The best feature of this hotel was its location and convenience to subways. The rooms are very basic; no alarm clock, iron, or hairdryer. The water pressure is not dependable. The water temperature can change at any given moment. You have to leave your room key at the front desk anytime you leave the hotel. Having said this, if you just want a place to sleep this is a satisfactory choice.

Old hotel but for that price and location are we very pleased with our stay and maybe return for shorter stays! M

The location of the hotel is great, close to Times Square, Rockerfeller Plaza and convenient subway stops. Right near the hotel are several deli's for breakfast and lunch, Starbucks and a few pubs/restuarants. The Irish Pubs nearby were family friendly provided you went early in the evening. The hotel itself was clean and value priced. We were comfortable in our room, but it was definitely basic accomodations. The hotel offered few amenities - no ice machines, no restuarant, etc. - but the rooms were clean and comfortable. The elevator is very slow, so try to stay on a lower floor if possible. I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't need more than a clean, convenient place to stay. Internet was avaialable for a fee and you can check baggage for few as well.

Hotel is at a good location for tourist- Restaurants open 24 hours, Metro buses easy access

Good price for a single guy on a budget,room plain but clean had the ac,tv it's own bath what more do you need? Close to Times Sq,deli next store,eat there every day,good prices for NY

The rooms need updates, but the service was efficient and the room was always neat and clean. Very close to the Times Square, nice breakfast places in the area.

Hotel St. James was an old New York style hotel, not like the upscale resort style hotels I am more familiar with. I enjoyed the personal service and the quaintness of the place. It was small, but that was what I needed, since I spent most of my time enjoying the sites of New York City. It was nice to come "home" to. Everything was clean. It was a small adventure in itself. I would stay there again.

Great location to Times Square. There's a handy convenience store right out the door where you can get coffee or snacks quickly. I was worried the room would be loud or old, but it was clean and quiet on the 8th floor. I was pleased and have booked another stay. There's a business center that I didn't use, but I got cell service in the room.

For the price, I couldn't expect anything better. I swear, it was walking distance from everything. Times Square, The Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center and many other attractions is just a short walk away. The room was clean and I loved the bathroom. There's also a deli next door. Again, for the price, it's not the waldorf astoria, but it does the job. Hell, you're in NYC, how much time are you planning on being in a hotel?

This hotel has a great location. Its a bit worn and there is very little in the way of comforts. Great for a simple visit but would not recomend for an extended stay as it lacks comfort items often taken for granted. The staff were very friendly and accomadating. The room was large for NYC and as stated its a few blocks from access to everything the city has to offer.

The St. James is located just a block or so from Times Square. We loved the convenience aspect of this hotel. But the room itself was sub-par. The window unit air conditioning hardly worked, and we were kept awake a lot of the night because of the dripping (condensation??) from the window unit from the floor above us. This hotel felt dated and light on the amenities (no safe or iron in the room).

I had a room fronting onto the street and there was a lot of street noise. In the New York heat the aircon was definitely required but the one in this room rattled and made a lot of noise. There was an envelope left in the room requesting tips for the cleaning staff which is not somethng I have encountered before; I felt tht because this person was oging to wandering around my room that I should tip so I did. The position of the hotel is great and convenient, the staff are competent and the room was clean to an appropriate. It was value fo rmoney but unless you are a heavy sleeper Iowuldn't recommend going here in summer and avoid a front room.

I have been traveling to NYC for years and have stayed in many hotels. The St. James is a wonderful place to stay. Its location is perfect, its staff is helpful, however what is outstanding is the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms. This means more to me than almost any other factor including price. Its an older hotel that is kept up very, very well. It is a great hotel if your using your room as a base and going out a lot. Nothing wrong with staying in the hotel, but if your looking for pools, spas, room service, etc., it does not provide those services. I look foward to staying there with my family again.

The room is extremely small and the AC was annoyingly noisy. Couldn't get a good sleep. There is no sound proof at all. We were waken up by the noise in the hallway millions of times. Since the AC was so noisy, we had to turn it off to get some sleep.

I spent a week at the St. James. It is smack in the middle of the Theatre District and thus handy to Broadway and Times Square. They have free Wifi which was why I selected the hotel. Hotel staff is friendly and competent but not intrusive. The Hotel St. James is a good value in midtown Manhattan.

very pleasantly surprised, the room was the largest budget room I've seen in NYC, very clean,great location if you want to be in Times Square, the lobby is spectacular, extremely comfortable place to sit and read or meet with friends. We would definately stay again

Convenience was exceptional. Very clean. The bed was not as comfortable as I would prefer, but pretty good for the money. I would definitely stay here again.

The rooms are not that great, but if you are just there to sleep it is fine. Great location, right in Time Square. Friendly staff. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles this is not the place for you.

Great Hotel with a great location. Unbeatable for the money. Elevator sounds like someone banging on the wall. There is no way to get away from the sound, no matter which room you are in.

The room and bathroom were clean. The bed was squeaky and since I'm a light sleeper, I woke up frequently. The elevators were very slow and I often took the stairs. The stairwell was dirty. I would recommend this place to someone looking for a good, central location, who is more concerned with what's outside the hotel, rather than inside it.

Convenient to Times Square and most major attactions. Hotel was well maintained; would not hesitate to stay there again.

I would highly recommend this hotel to any budget conscious traveler. There were small things (like a rattling A/C) that were easily overlooked considering the cost and location of this hotel. A hotel of this quality, less than a block from Times Square is amazing! The rooms vary in size, so its probably worth a few dollars more to get the king sized room. The sitting room was comfortable (despite the small TV) and a great place to meet up with friends and chat - or make new ones. Once I got used to the old fashioned key system, it was actually quaint and a great excuse to interact with the friendly desk staff.

The location is excellent, near subway station, bus atation, Bryant Park, and Times Square. The hotel is old fashioned but clean. My room had a perfect minimalist decor, clean bathroom, soap, shampoo and a double bed which would have been better had it been queen size. Internet is available at the lobby for a fee.

Had never heard of this hotel and while looking on Hotels.com - found it! There were mixed reviews, but weighed what was important to me; after all, who spends a lot of time hanging in the room? Pleasantly surprised, the room was very clean, spacious, towels were actually soft. However, there was no bath mat for the floor, no exhaust fan and also no hair dryer. I brought my own hair dryer, so it wasn't a problem. And my flip flops worked very well in place of a bath mat. Location is awesome! All around, two thumbs up from me. I'll be booking again soon.

If you choose to stay at this hotel, it should be merely for the reason of convenience of location. It is in the perfect location for a low cost, but don't expect any "extra's". The hotel is old, and the rooms are very small and slightly uncomfortable. So, all in all if you're staying in the city for just a couple nights and you'll spend a lot of time in Times Square then the Hotel St. James is a good choice, but if you're looking for something a bit more upscale, I'd shop around although you're almost guaranteed to spend more money.

Small room, but the bath was nice sized. The location is absolutely awesome! Located one block off Times Square. Basic room for a good price; location, location, location.

It was better than expected. It was not a luxurious hotel but it was clean and less than a block away from Times Suare. The staff was very nice and helpful. If I ever visit New York again I would not mind staying there again.

I found the service to be excellent and you could not beat the location! The price was reasonable and they even offered us a free upgrade at check-in!
