The Surrey - New York

The Surrey Suite Hotel was marvelous. It is in a great location (couple blocks from the 77th St Subway stop, Central Park, and the Metropolitan). The hotel staff was friendly and ensured that my guest and I were comfortable at all times. The rooms are huge for NYC standards and priced very competitively. Great stay.

Too bad it's closing for renovations that will cut the suites in one half. No more suites, just bedrooms. If you can catch the hotel before it closes, do so.

Very close to Central Park & within 2 blocks of the subway & a grocery store. Large rooms with kitchenette make this ideal for families. We stayed there with our 3 kids and will definitely come back.

This hotel is great. Although we originally thought it was a little out of the way, there is actually a subway stop only 3 blocks from the hotel. The staff was exceptional and extremely helpful. Our room was beautiful and the neighborhood is very quiet and safe. We will definitely be staying here again.

Very nice neighborhood, lots of food options, near the subway, quiet hotel. the suite was very large for the 4 of us.

A little "long in the tooth", the Surrey needs redecoration. But price is reasonable, service is excellent, room is large and very clean, bed comfortable, and bonus, a full kitchen, dining table (even with an extra leaf!), living room, separate very quiet bedroom, and LOCATION is fantastic. It will be redecorated, I was told probably after October now, and then it will become another high priced hotel with little boxes for rooms. Call now!

I came to New York with my daughter who is 12 for a long weekend. We loved the place. I spent the extra for a suite and it was great. The place was immaculate. The staff was considerate and helpful. Yes the decor is a little lacking or dated but it doesn't change my feelings about this hotel especially if you have a family. The location was not as close to subways but it is so close to fabulous Museums and the fifth avenue bus which will get you anywhere.

Outstanding location.

My family and I (2 adults/3 children)spent two days and one night in the city and our stay at the Surrey Hotel exceeded our expectations. The front desk staff was accomodating, friendly, and knowledgable about surrounding activities and dining locations. From extra towels to early check in to hailing taxis, our experience was enjoyable and the hotel stay was excellent!

This was a great value, clean, quiet, spacious room, with a very comfortable bed, kitchenette, and even walk-in closets. Very friendly & helpful staff. Safe and convenient location to Central Park, subway, & shopping. Quick walk to the greenline, for an easy ride to Yankee Stadium!

I was quite surprised when we opened the door to the room. It was very large and bright. Much like a small studio apartment with a kitchen area (microwave, sm refridgerator, sink, dishes). Clean and nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again.

Although the rooms and furnishings are a bit tired, the hotel is a great experience and very convenient to the subway, restaurants and Central park.

Excellent location for us, near Central Park and the Met (we spent alot of time at these places). Absolutely loved the neighborhood also. Far enough from the hustle & bustle of midtown, but easy to get to when we wanted hustle & bustle. Our dinner at Cade Boloud was probably the best dining experience my wife & I ever had. Comfortable, large room, somewhat old & creaky floors, not much of a view from our window. Friendly staff, good service, but as always, we didn't spend alot of time in the room. Our daughter stayed with us one night. No charge, and the rollaway bed for her was delivered less than 5 minutes from the request. Overall, I would stay again, and I would recommend to friends.

The Surrey Suite hotel is an older hotel that has not been upgraded in quite some time, but that's ok. The room or suite if you will, was huge, with an additional huge bedroom and a complete kitchenette, two closets,and a safe. In Manhattan? Oh, and if you must travel with your pooch, the place is amazingly pet friendly, and they do not charge extra! The size of our suite is truly unmatched by any other hotel at almost any price. The furnishings were old, but had character, and the room was very clean. The beds were probably upgraded at some point because they were very comfortable, and had nice soft, comfortable linens, I slept like a baby. The only downside is that I had to position my computer to pick up someone's unsecured wireless network, the hotel does not provide it or they charge extra, I'm not sure which it is. But hey, how can you beat a 60 second walk to Central Park?

The rooms were larger than the average NYC hotel room but a little tired and could use freshening up. Location was terrific with personnel to match. They were knowledgeable and helpful.

After trying to make a reservation at another hotel in NYC that happened to be booked, hotels.com suggested the Surrey Suite and I jumped on it for the relatively low price for the area and that it was close to last minute for 4th of July. I looked at the pictures, virtual tour, reviews, and was impressed. I was even more impressed when I arrived. The check in and valet services were quick and simple. The room was great: very clean, spacious, plenty of outlets, great sized bathroom. The staff was excellent! Everyone we talked to was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. They made my friend and me feel much more at home in a city neither of us had been to before. The location is wonderful. Easy walking distance to Central Park, museums, and lots of great restaurants and shopping. Subway stops are also extremely close. This is a great hidden gem, I highly recommend it.

Great hotel in a wonderful neighborhood. 1/2 block from Central Park and 2-3 blocks from the subway. Nice staff and clean rooms. Will stay here again.

This place is awesome! The location is superb (great upper eastside neighborhood a block from Central Park) and the rooms are huge, with kitchenettes! Alot of bang for the buck. But, I heard they will soon be renovating and turning the place into the same tiny rooms that most NYC hotels have -- WITHOUT kitchenettes. Also, the highly-acclaimed Cafe Boulud is located here (although it is too expensive for our wallets). Lots of other great restaurants in the area too.

The hotel suite was beautiful and impeccably clean. I loved the location. The staff welcomed me with a glass of Champagne --a wonderful way to begin. My only complaint was that the bathtub did not drain and the water remained standing all night.

Wonderful quiet tree lined street adjacent to Central Park in a family neighborhood. Staff is very friendly and helpful and the value for the room rate which is having an apartment in the city is fabulous!!

The staff was so friendly and helpful. They really went out of their way to be helpful. I will stay there again.

I was pleasantly surprised by my recent stay at the Surrey Suite Hotel. Although it has been several years since the hotel was last renovated, the room was clean and very large, unlike the original W Hotel at 49th St., which gives you a bed with four walls around it. The bed was firm and the sheets were great. Excellent pillows too! The room was equiped with a wet bar, mini-bar fridge with extra room for personal items, a coffee maker, and microwave. The hotel is one block east of Central Park, and two blocks west of the subway that runs under Lexington. I had no trouble hailing a cab from the hotel, and I walked back to the hotel from 49th and 8th Avenue at 9:30 pm and felt totally safe.

We were pleased with the greeting and upgrade we received when we entered the hotel. We felt totally welcome. The room plus sitting room was very comfortable. Later in the evening we enjoyed a drink outside at the restaurant and were served courteously with an "extra" of desert complimentary. It was unexpected and made a lovely impression

I have stayed at they Surrey 3 times over the last 3 years, and have chosen it for it's location. It is a safe neighborhood, close to my family on the upper east side of NYC, close to Central Park, restaurants, shopping, etc. The cost is similar to the larger chain hotels in Times Square area, but much quieter. The amenities are limited, but it is clean, quiet, rooms are large and bright, and it really is a great place for the price. Can't beat it!

The location is outstanding, one block from Central Park and Mueseum row, two blocks from the subway, one block from a grocery store. The rooms are very large and have a small kitchen. Ideal if you have kids, or just want to make coffee and snacks (or heat up the leftovers from dinner). I love this hotel, have stayed several times. Staff is friendly and helpful. Front desk gave us glasses of complimentary champagne. Many wonderful restaurants and great shopping nearby. Love it! Can't beat it for the price.

having to pay for internet access is VERY tacky. other than that, great place and neighborhood!

Let me preface all my comments by saying that I was upgraded from a one bedroom to a two bedroom suite for myself and two others and it was enormous. For what I paid for my room I was astounded at the level of quality of the hotel. The staff were very pleasant. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathrooms very clean. My only disappointments were in the weather (I couldn't fully enjoy our lovely balcony) and that I wasn't staying longer (I couldn't sleep in and enjoy the bed longer).

The only thing that prevents this hotel from being a five star is that the rooms could be very slightly cleaner. They are old and it shows in a few places and there were a few crumbs and stains, but nothing really bad at all. The staff was great and greeting us with a glass of champaign was a wonderful touch. A great value.

This is like having one's own apartment on New York's upper east side. I prepare many of my own meals there (saving a lot of money), or eat out at one of the many great restaurants in the neighborhood. Getting to midtown is easy, with the subway being only three blocks away. The staff are helpful, friendly, and really make you feel welcome. This hotel is an extraordinary New York experience.

Great hotel!!! Been staying there for years. Prime location. Upper East side between Central Park and Madison Ave. Unfortunately, may be closing soon for renovations.

Due to the hotel's location, local restaurants, even an up-scale "diner" tend to be a bit pricey.The hotel has a restaurant but only serves room service breakfast. A brisk walk a few blocks south might give one a good apetite and save a few dollars in the deThe nearby American Illustraqtors Museum is free and worth the visit. It also houses a dining room with great illustrations on the walls.

The room was excellently appointed. It had wonderful sheets, pillows and a great bed. The staff was superb. I would recommend Surrey Hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the 70's on the East side of Manhattan.

Outstanding suite hotel with very caring and gracious staff. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and the staff gave us a gift of champagne and chocolates and went to extra effort to make our visit romantic and memorable. We loved the location too, and went to a show at the Carlyle Cafe right around the corner. Wonderful!
