Latham Hotel - New York

the rooms are very simple, but it was clean, and chances are your view will be a blind wall, and only one bathroom for each floor is far too few, but I was lucky and never had to wait, the hotel is very quiet and the location is fine, although next time I'll prefer a hotel more downtown. so it was okay for its price...

Het Latham Hotel heeft een geweldige locatie in New York. Om de hoek is het Empire State Building en Madison Square Park. We kregen elke dag schone handdoeken en onze bedden werden keurig opgemaakt. Het personeel heeft ons met allerlei zaken uitgebreid geholpen, zowel bij het boeken van bustickets als het vinden van toeristische attracties. Daar dus zeer tevreden over. Het hotel zelf is oud, de gangen zijn smal en de kamers klein. Je hebt nergens uitzicht op de straat, alle ramen kijken uit op een muur. De lift werkte een aantal dagen niet, waardoor we met de personeelslift moesten, stonden vaak lang te wachten en naar de 13e etage lopen is niet te doen met zware tassen. We hebben een prima tijd gehad in het hotel, maar dat kan alleen als je alleen in het hotel slaapt, beslist geen plek waar je even een boek gaat lezen. Op zich ook niet nodig in New York.

het hotel is centraal gelegen en schoon. de gedeelde badkamers zijn eigenlijk ook altijd schoon, op wat zeepflesjes van voorgangers na en meestal ook wel vrij wanneer je erin wilt. vraag om een slaapkamer met 2 aparte bedden, wij hadden een zogenaamd 2persoonsbed maar dat was nog niet eens 1.40 breed dus erg smal!

De locatie van het hotel is goed. Vriendelijk en aardig balie personeel.De kamer is voldoende en de badkamer is netjes en schoon.Elke dag schone lakens en nieuwe handoeken.

Hotel ligging was geweldig. Kamer had een fijne douche en prima bed. Tv, kasten, shampoo/zeep/doucheschuim e.d. aanwezig. Kamer werd slecht schoongehouden (in de 6 nachten die wij er waren is er niet één keer stofgezogen), douche werd wel goed schoongemaakt. We hadden geen uitzicht, we hadden nooit daglicht op onze kamer, dat kwam doordat er een flat op zo'n 1,5a 2 m van het hotel stond. Beide gebouwen waren erg hoog, dus geen daglicht. Het hotel leek voor een deel een shelter, veel alleenstaande moeders met kinderen leken er te wonen en er hingen nogal wat ongure types rond in het hotel. Twee keer 's nachts hoorden we ongekende ruzies met mannen die hun(?) vriendin/vrouw en kind leken te willen meenemen. Personeel was wisselend, van heel vriendelijk tot ronduit onbeschoft. Je koffers op de laatste dag laten staan kostte $1;00 per koffer. De kamers waren verder niet gehorig en de ligging was/is werkelijk super. Je loopt de hoek om en je ziet de empier state building en de andere hoek om en je ziet de flatiron building. Erg erg erg mooi.

Het hotel is oud maar netjes,wij hadden een privé badkamer en deze was netjes schoon. De ligging is echt perfect, je loopt zo naar empire state building en Time square.Voor de prijs was het een zeer goed hotel.

Kamer was echt bizar klein. Twee stapelbedden, terwijl we met zn tweeen waren, dus dat werd niet lekker samen in 1 bed slapen. Het enige goede aan de kamer was dat het wel netjes was en de airconditioning was erg fijn.

Aangezien je toch weinig in je hotel bent bij een verblijf in NY is dit hotel prima. Wij sliepen er alleen. Kamer werd elke dag even schoongemaakt. Badkamer op de gang was goed schoon, alleen is het af en toe ff goed plannen wanneer je gaat douchen want 's ochtends gebruikt iedereen de badkamer. Verder een redelijk hotel voor een leuke prijs in een verder duur Manhattan

Als je verwachtingen en eisen niet hoog zijn voldoet de kamer aan je basisbehoeften. NY is echt een te gekke stad! Je leeft veel buiten de deur, alleen op de kamer voor douchen en slapen.

Locatie is perfect gelegen... direct bij 5th Avenue en daardoor veel te voet kunnen afleggen. Kamers heel eenvoudig maar schoon. Elke dag schone handdoeken, airco werd voor aankomst alvast aangezet en dagelijks opgemaakte bedden. Niets op aan te merken!

Alleen al voor de locatie is dit een prachtig hotel , alles op loopafstand, o.a Empire state bilding/centale park/ broadway/ time square, verwacht geen luxe kamer van tweexdrie mtr en badkamer tweextwee mtr, prijs technische prima.

voor de prijs is het een goed hotel. de ligging is ook prima. Elke dag schone handdoeken. nadeel is dat er deuren tussen de kamers zitten om zo van tweepersonnskamers 4 persoonskamers te maken, het gevolg is dat je alles hoort wat de buren doen en zeggen...

Actually it depends on the price you pay. Location is perfect. Staff is quit friendly. Hotel itself not bad, except for elevator that is practically one and too slow. I was on business trip and I took chip room with shared bathroom. I will never do this. I had to wake up at 5.00 in the morning to be sure that I can take a shower. Shared bathroom means: “compartment with shower and toilet that you share with at least 4 rooms”. (I had an impression that with 8 rooms). If you come as a tourist and you do need to be at the meeting in the morning – it is okay. However, next time in business trip in New York I will prefer to pay twice higher in this hotel than to have “shared bathroom” .

This by far is the worst hotel I have been to in my 27 years of living and I have traveled all over the world. First problem was the fact that we had to use a community shower and we werent informed and we diddnt have shower shoes with us. That was very nasty and unsanitary. Next problem we faced was the fact that we found bugs in our bed. We diddnt recive money back that day all we got was a letter claiming that we will get a full refund for the room. The fact that there was bugs in the sheets shows that the sheets were proably not changed and that the hotel cleanliness was not up to standard. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone it is below a one star hotel. I cant believe for the price we paid we had to share a shower and bathroom with a whole floor of people. Its just disgusting to find bugs in a bed your suppose to sleep in and no accomdations where made until we got really upset and demanded a refund. I suggest as I told the person I talked to on the phone from hotels.com that this hotel should not be on the site. I know its a 1 1/2 star hotel but this was just disgusting.

This hotel is what it claims to be - a budget hotel. If you go expecting more, you will be disappointed. However if you expect basic comfort, cleanliness and what you paid for basically, you will be satisfied. The rooms are a little worn, the decor not great but the rooms are cleaned daily and the towels and sheets are changed daily. The bed is comfortable and the hotel is safe. The shower was a bit weak but we managed. The air conditioning is loud but such a relief after the heat of outside. We were so tired when we went to bed that the noise didnt affect us. The hotel staff were helpful and pleasant and happy to assist. The hotel does house single mums and their children. They were all polite and quiet. The children were well behaved and a pleasure to talk to. The elevator is a bit slow....but who wants to rush on holiday! The location is excellent. Turn left out of the hotel onto 5th Avenue and see the Empire State building. Times Square, with all its entertainment and shopping opportunities, is a 15 minute stroll away. Overall, a fantastic holiday!

For the price, it's a great deal. it all depends on what floor you get and the location of the room. I would stay there again for that price.

Great location. Otherwise, the worst travel experience of my life. Smelled strongly of armpits snd pine cleaner. Dark spooky hallways. No hot water in the mildewed shower. Air con made weird noises all night. Some sort of homeless shelter for women and children located inside the building. Next time I'll spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.

The rooms are very small - but in i guess the price was fair.

The hotel was old, and not charming, but clean and functional. Get a room with a private bath. I was glad I did. There is just one shared bath per floor. You don't come to NYC to wait for the bathroom. The room was not cramped, with plenty of drawer space. Don't expect a desk, a view (my view was a blank wall), more than one public elevator, or a new mattress. It was a good, quiet place to sleep and clean up on a budget. Close to subway lines N,W,R, and 6. Very close to Madison Square Park, which is beautiful and shady. The neighborhood felt safe late at night.

Had a great two night stay at this hotel. Fantastic location - a few blocks away from the subway and close to 5th Avenue and Broadway streets. Elevator in the hotel was very slow and hot and the hotel was also old but my room was clean and had everything I needed. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.

If you are single and easy going, and wanted a cheap hotel and great location, here's the place. Hotel staffs are friendly. But the interior is old and bed is not very comfortable.

were so disappointed & disgusted with this hotel,shared bathroom is not good idea at all,receptionist are not helful at all,elevator suck ,floor with carpet is not even iether,this hotel need a renovation & thorough great fix,overall sucks.

More a youth hostel than an hotel. I got a room with a private bath. Great place to stay for an overnight visit to NYC. Small room, no-frills. Both room and bath were clean. Very friendly staff.

Very close to wre i want to go. very cheap, hope the price wont change , if they change the price range they will lose clients. I can deal with shared bathroom for the money i paid thats okay. Room is okay BUT THEY NEED TO FIX The AIRCONDITION ITS MAKING A LOT of NOISE. Thats The room 1011. But over all is great , staff are friendly. SUGGESTION IS: if you wanna stay with latham you must bring a lysol disinfectant spray, for toilet seat use, for safety reason, spray the toliet seat first before you sit on it. Im sure will comeback with latham very safe and clean, friendly. I stay there for one week. thanks.

Old hotel with small room.

Bad sevice, too expensive. bad location.

When we were looking for places to stay in New York it was really hard to find anywhere that wasn't ultra expensive, so we were really pleased to find the Latham in such a brilliant location. It is round the corner from the Empire State Building and a really handy place to stay. The hotel is functional, but you do get what you pay for, so we were very realistic going. Our rooms were clean and basic. There was quite a lot of noise from a generator outside, but we soon got used to it. We were sharing a bathroom with the floor and often had to queue, particularly in the mornings between 8.30 and 11am, so as long as you weren't in a huge rush to get out it was ok. The bathrooms were very clean and the shower powerful! A couple of nights we were woken up to arguments in the corridors (from the house which is attached to the hotel, there appear to be a number of young families also living in the building). All in all, it is basic and functional but a brilliant location, and to find a hotel this price was a real find in central Manhattan.

Room was too little and there was no windows

The room was tiny, dirty and small, got to share bathroom with 4 other rooms, plus the shower smell like piss, instead of 2 twin size bed, they only have bunk bed for 2, i would not consider stay in this one again.

With the money I saved by staying at the Latham I was able to shop more! I don't think I would stay there with a significant other because of the shared bathroom. It was surprisingly quiet, the staff were great. A little odorous but not too bad.

If you're looking to experience the city, and won't be in your room very often, then this is the hotel for you. The room is small, the bed is uncomfortable, but the service is excellent! The location is brilliant, with a great view of the Empire State Building just around the corner, and the Madison Park about 2 blocks away. Located just between 23rd and 28th st metro stops you are a walk away from the 4, 5, and 6, and only a few stops from anywhere else you'd like to see.

Latham is okay for a very very very last minute hotel booking. Quad rooms are a little weird there but I didn't know what to expect coming into a room like so. It was just 2 cheap metal bunk beds shoved into a small room but then again it is new york. For the same amount of money spent at Latham, after review and other experiences of hotels you can find a better place for the buck. Its also weird because it seems as though Latham serves as an operating apartment complex as well. I only recommend this hotel if its a last minute situation.

I'd read a mixture of reviews of this hotel but went with an open mind. The location is good, close to Subway lines 4, 5, 6 for travelling north and south, and the neighbourhood is safe. If anything, this hotel brings down the whole area. The rooms are small, badly kept, with threadbare carpet, a cheap bed, thin blanket and single pillow, making me feel like I was in a prison cell rather than hotel. On the plus side the air conditioning and TV worked and there was very little noise from neighbouring rooms, but the noise from next doors air-conditioning system was deafening. The mothers with children kept to themselves, but there were so many waiting in the lobby every eveneing, it was depressing whenever I returned from a great day in the city. I ended up dreading the return and counted down the nights I was there. I didn't let it spoil the NY experience but would definitely pay more money for a better hotel.

I stayed here overnight for a concert, and I have to say, The Latham Hotel is the perfect spot for overnight stays! It's in a safe, quiet neighborhood near Gramercy, close to food, shopping, entertainment etc.! The room and bathroom were SPOTLESS! And there is a nice, deep clawfoot tub! The front desk staff was courteous and friendly! The room may be small, but if all you're looking for is a comfy place to sleep and maybe a relaxing bath, I would HIGHLY recomment this place! And there's a little Chinese food spot right next door too! Next time I visit the city, I will definately look into staying here again!

Arrived at 1.00 am as we were 5 hours late. Staff was friendly and we were checked in with no fuss. The room was pretty small, clean and comfortable. It was cleaned every day and we had clean towels every day as well. The location is great - so close to the Empire State building, it is the first thing you see when you exit the hotel and go left. The neighborhood seemed fine. There is a very nice cafe on the corner of the street the hotel is on that does amazing breakfast. We went there every morning. Close, cheap and very nice. I did get bitten by something three times. Not sure what it was, and one night the heat came on at 4.00 am and work us up as the pipes made so much noise. A good pair of ear plugs will do you wonders. I would definitely stay here again. A great location and very cheap. If you are looking for places to eat around Latham, walk straight down to Lexington Avenue, there are lots of restaurants there. (Look out for wine prices though...)

This was my first time staying in a hotel with a shared bathroom. I found this hotel to be comfortable and a nice stay. The staff was helpful and nice. The bathroom was very nice and clean. I would stay again on my next trip to the city.

the "windows" of my room were facing immediately the backside of the neighbouring building, it was so dark that i even couldnt see what the things were. in the early morning i could clearly hear the yell of pigeons resting on the window corners... the bed was neither comfortable. the condition of the hotel was worse than all the HOSTELS that I stayed before. Wouldn't recommend people who come for LEISURE...

Great price for a midtown hotel. If you are planning on bringing the wife or a lady significant other, maybe is not the best place to stay. This hotel is really what New York is! I would guess that the building is at least 100 years old, and that has its appeal. It felt as if you stepped in back in time. Not bad at all, clean and lovely.

We chose this hotel for its location, we were not disappointed. We walked everywhere. The hotel shelters single women with families and this should be disclosed

Great central location. Close to everything. The subway is really close and you can take this everywhere. The staff were very helpful. The room was very clean. It was cleaned every day. The shared bathroom was spotless, and the shower was great. Hot water all the time. We never had to wait once for the bathroom which was nice. The elevators were a bit slow, but nothing too annoying. Its an old building. We were out most of the days, but the hotel was a great base. I have no complaints about the latham hotel. If you are on a budget, this is the place for you. Great location, great price, and very clean.

I had been stuck without a hotel, in the freezing cold, in a business suit, high heels, and my suitcase. This place had a great rate, was clean, and the people were very friendly. If you're looking for the Ritz, this isn't it. But considering many of the lower priced hotels I've stayed in in Manhatten, the Latham was a gem. It's not going to look like a standard hotel. It's an old building and there's no hiding it, but overall, I really enjoyed my stay there. Plus, it was next to the subway station, near great food, and it was warm and clean.

This hotel was very affordable and actually pretty clean. The neighboring guests weren't so pleasant but the hotel itself was pretty great for the price. I would definitely stay there again.

Cheap as it gets nothing fancy but the location was perfect for what i needed (Madison square garden)

Location is good, there is everything you need: starbucks, dunkin donuts, restaurants, drug store w/pharmacy, cleaners, etc. Location is safe and the hotel is a humble but comfordable, welcoming and secured (I was ask by security to present my room key as I entered the lobby). The room is old New York, but has everything you need for a short stay, nice people at the reception area and working the rooms as well. highly recommended!

This place was a roach motel. The place smelled. It had roaches. The doors squeaked. The t.v. was old. The bed as a small bed. The bed was hard as hell. Sheets had holes and were really old. The steam was too high. The shared bathroom look like I would catch an std by taking a shower. It also smelled like piss.
