Fresh Hotel and Hostel - New York

it's a basic room, nothing extra. a bed and a trashcan. but clean and quite (7th floor= top). bathroom is basic but clean and I never really had to wait (share with I think 4 or 5 pers). depents who is behind the desk if you have good service or not. but location is perfect (near subway) and it's a good starting point to go anywhere by subway. I felt safe (women by her self) in the neighbourhood. you don't get much, but that's what you pay for. so overall good budget choise.

Het is een jeugdherberg, dus niet te moeilijk doen. Als het voor één of twee nachten is dan is het goedkoop. Ga je langer dan is het beter om iets anders en iets duurder te gaan slapen.

Perfect gelegen hostel gelegen in de buurt van het central park en op loopafstand een metrostation. Als je er niet te veel van verwacht is het een prima hostel. je bed is schoon, en daar draait het dan ook allemaal om in een hostel. Je bent tenslotte in new york en daarom dus weinig in je hotelkamer. Wat ons betreft een aanrader zeker gezien voor het geld.

Een oud hotel met weinig comfort, maar wel een goede prijs en op een redelijk goede locatie op Manhattan

there wasnt a tv in my room it also didnt have towels in the room the bedding had a few minor holes n the cover the shower water ran a bit on the chilly side by the time i took a shower. other than that the hotel was great it was my birthday weekend and i barely stayed in my room but do consider staying again

I simply needed a place to sleep, and Fresh Hotel provided a simple, comfortable, clean room. For the money, it was a great value for NYC.

this was a great place to stay away from the hustle of midtown manhattan for a low cost. However, my only concern was it was too far from midtown..other than that..great for the cost.

I've stayed for 1 night in a private standard room with shared bath. The room had just enough space to fit a double bed and a chair (no table). The sheets were clean, and they included a towel and soap. One bathroom is shared among a block of about 5 rooms; it was small and basic but functioning and clean. Wi-fi worked only near the reception. In the room next to mine was an all-night party, but this is a hostel after all. Overall, adequate for the money (for Manhattan), and better than I expected.

I haven't stayed in NYC for five years or so, but I was surprised by the rate for this room. The room had a single bed, a light above, a mirror, a dresser, and a closet. The AC, however, worked beautifully and the room got very cold quickly. There were NO towels for the bathroom, and I went to buy some on my own. It is a shame NYC charges so much when for this same price, London has two and three star hotels with a private bath. The bathroom was exceptionally clean, however.

good place to crash

Odd bit about needing to show proof of how we arrived in NY. For us it was showing our car registration. At least they let Americans stay there.

You get exactly what you pay for: A bed, clean sheets, clean bathroom an safe area and no frills. I had to share with some people who were fairly considerate and I could keep valuables behind reception. The hostel isn't a nice hotel but it's perfect if you just need a clean bed and bathroom for a couple of nights for a cheap price. The subways two blocks away and I felt very safe walking back at night in that area of NYC. The staff weren't super-friendly but they were helpful if you needed something. It's not fun on your own but again it's no frills. I wouldn't recomend it for an enjoyable hotel experience but if all you need it a bed, clean sheets and bathroom for a few nigths then go for it. It sure isn't 5 star quality, but it's fine for the price.

Everytime I go to NYC I choose this hotel, it is a great room for the money, clean, close to the subway, and a lot nice cooffe shops around.

No way. It is terrible. I staid one night for never more. Dirty and disgusting. Besides terrible service. You find something better...

while my stay at this hotel was only for one night, and it was not very expensive at all, I had expected much more. From afar, the photos posted make the rooms look acceptable. However, the hotel absolutely stank. The smell in the hallway was intolerable. In the room, we woke up and found a bug in our bed. There was a dead rat in the hallway as well. The bathrooms were relatively clean, but there were still some creepy crawlers in there. I cannot even imagine staying in this hotel for more than a night. I was scared to use the sheet and slept on my coat instead! I strongly, strongly recommend paying maybe double or a less the price of this hotel to attain some legitimate and clean housing. While the hotel is close to the train, it's not close to great sights, so it's still a little out of the way. pay a little more for some peace of mind and a satisfactory night of sleep!

Staying in a double bed room was a step above prison. This cannot in anyway be considered a hotel. It is little more that a hostel. The bunk bed squeaked like hell. The only bonus to the room was a mirror. No water, no TV, no chairs, towls. If you want to sleep don't stay here. The cleanliness of the place is also sketchy.

I can't call it as a hotel but the price is relatively good. If you are looking for someplace to sleep a night, that is ok.

This is basically an apartment complex that they painted with bright colors and installed metallic doors, can called it a hostel. It was fine for the price that we paid, but I wouldn't exactly call it homey. Pretty close to the metro. The biggest problem that they don't advertise is that there are no lockers in the room! You have to pay $5 to use the lockers in the basement and it cost $5 each time you open it!! So if you have a long stay, it could really add up. Some ppl in our room made the mistake of not locking up their suitcases and it was taken by some other ppl who had been staying in the room with them!! It wasn't the hotel's fault, but I felt so bad for them. It was understandable that they didn't want to keep paying $5 since they were staying there for several weeks.. So I would recommend the place for a one or two night stay, but NOT for long-term because of the $5 lockers.

The place was clean. The room was clean. The location is near metro stops. For the price, it's great!

I was under the impression that this was a hotel-since it is advertised on hotels.com and according to hotels.com the name of the place is "The Widget Hotel." It was actually a run-down hostel. Way over-priced. If you have any standards at all, don't stay here.

Great location near the Number 1 subway express stop!

Great value for the price. Very clean, comfortable hostel, friendly staff. Don't expect a 5-star resort for the minimal price and you will come away comfortably surprised. It's in a great location, 2 blocks from the subway in a nice neighborhood on the Upper West Side. Shared bathrooms, obviously regularly cleaned, nice hot shower. Clean sheets, clean towel, for the price what more can you ask for? Would definitely return on my short stays in the city.

The Hotel is located in the North West of Manhatten, and the 96th street subway is only a short walk away. Only 3 blocks from Central Park, and about 5 or 6 stops on the subway to Times Square (expect to pay around 12-15 dollars for a taxi). It's well worth buyuing the 7 day subway pass for 25 bucks. Expect no frills, this is a budget hotel, and in the end I guess you get what you ay for. I used the hotel to store my stuff and to sleep at night. And that is probably all you'd want to do there. The bed was changed regularly, but the floor could have done with a good hoover. The staff were friendly enough, and the games room is not a bad place to chill out for an evening. I would only go back to the widget if i was working on a very tight budget.

Overall we thought it was a good deal. Don't expect too much luxury in the room, but the basement of the hostel has space for leisure. But hey, who needs stuff like that when you're in the middle of NY.

Lets face it, A decent hotel in Manhattan costs 3 times as much. I should have known better. This place looks nothing like the pictures. I reserved a room with 2 queen beds, I got a tiny room cramed with 2 metal bunk beds, no chair, no nightstand or clock. The TV didn't work. It looks like a prison without the bars.Loved New York but next time I will spring for a nicer place.

Hotels.com didn't send on the reservation to the hotel - so that took about 30 minutes to sort out with the manager... but was alright in the end. Otherwise this hostel is an excellent choice if you are looking for something convenient and cheap. Its a clean room and bed, and good bathrooms, and right next to the subway.

First of all don't look after "Widget" you can not see this name anywhere, it is very confusing, you can find it only by the address. The room was dirty, nobody cleaned it after the prior guest, dirty linen with hair all over the bed.

You get what you pay for at this hotel but you dont pay very much. I could go on about the faults of the Hotel and they are numerious particularly in the quality of the decor and fittings but it is clean as is the bedding and the beds are reasonably comfortable, so when compaired to the cost of your stay its good value. If you intend to spend all most all your time seeing NYC rather than in your hotel room this could be a good budget choice. If you want to spend some time relaxing in your Hotel room dont stay here.

Clean, simple,freindly. Nice roommates. Metrass very (too) hard and boicy due to uncomfortable plasticcover.

the widget is of course a hostel so dont expect the amenities of a full hotel. its clean, you get a bed with clean sheets..however we brought our own sleeping bags. we has a single room, with a bunk bed, it was clean and on the first floor...no bugs noticed. location is great, 2 blocks from the subway with plenty of places to eat and drink. for the most part, the employees were cool. security gaurds are very nice and don't mind the noise if your in the basement if your up partying. overall, a good stay and you cant beat the price. if your on budget, crash there, it's worth the savings.

This is the cheapest place you can find in manhatten. But you can't stay there if u are from the tri state area. all you have is a bed in a room and a open closet with a rail in it. oh and a light and trash can and a bar of soap. but it really isnt bad at all i didnt c ne cock roaches or nething. we did have to share a bathroom which was verry clean the only bad thing is sometimes bitches who arent staying in your section use your bathroom for an hour and a half to take a shower. its a room in the city u only need it to sleep. highly recommended.

Bed lines were clean but only 1 pillow for a double bed- Blinds would not function to allow air conditioner to blow into the room- For the price, it was what you'd expect in New York City- There was a notice plastered to the front glass of the enterance announcing a warrant for someone listing the property as their address-
